A Trump-appointed judge struck down two actions from the Education Department aimed at rooting out diversity, equity and inclusion programs in American schools, arguing that the federal government cannot push their policies "at the expense of constitutional rights."In her ruling Thursday, U.S. District Judge Stephanie Gallagher in Maryland found that the Education Department violated the law when it threatened to cut federal funding from educational institutions that continued with DEI initiatives."The administration is entitled to express its viewpoints and to promulgate policies aligned with those viewpoints," Gallagher wrote, according to Politico. "But it must do so within the procedural bounds Congress has outlined. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, temporarily leading Washington, D.C.s police at President Donald Trumps request, announced Thursday that she had sent letters giving sanctuary jurisdictions nationwide one week to comply with federal immigration laws or face Department of Justice action, contrasting South Carolina with Democratic states like New York and California.Bondi was in Greenville, South Carolina, on Thursday for a panel discussion with state Attorney General Alan Wilson, several members of Congress and local law enforcement agencies.In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital moments before the announcement, Bondi responded to whether temporary federalization of local police departments could be done beyond D.C., such as in New York or elsewhere."Oh, let's wait and see what's going to happen," Bondi told Fox News Digitals Danielle Wallace. "But I just sent sanctuary city letters to 32 mayors around the country and multiple governors saying, you better be abiding by our federal policies and with our federal law enforcement, because if you aren't, we're going to come after you. Thanking Wilson for advocating for increased partnerships with the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and U.S. Marshals, Bondi told Fox News Digital a member of the Sinaloa Cartel was recently busted after "massive amounts" of cocaine were seized in Myrtle Beach.Wilson credited such strong cooperation to law enforcement recently being able to make the largest fentanyl seizure in South Carolinas history. Last month, DEA agents, Lexington County Sheriffs deputies, and South Carolina State Transport Police made two coordinated traffic stops in two South Carolina counties, resulting in 156 pounds of fentanyl being seized. Two brothers from California were arrested and indicted in connection with the case.The Justice Department said that seized fentanyl had the potential to kill 36 million people and a street retail value of $1.7 million.In her letter to Newsom, Bondi said Trump also directed federal agencies to evaluate their authority to issue grants, contracts and federal funds "to determine where immigration-related terms and conditions may be added to combat sanctuary policies." Noting that Congress has "codified the duty of states and local governments to cooperate in immigration enforcement efforts," the letter said Bondi ordered investigations to identify "any such potential unlawful conduct."Newsom's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.Bondi's letter comes roughly a week after the DOJ identified nearly three dozen cities, states and counties across the country that it said were sanctuaries for illegal immigrants.Bondi said in a statement at the time that the cities and states, which mostly lean blue, have immigration policies that "impede law enforcement and put American citizens at risk by design.""The Department of Justice will continue bringing litigation against sanctuary jurisdictions and work closely with the Department of Homeland Security to eradicate these harmful policies around the country," Bondi said.Four of the states on the DOJs list California, New York, Colorado and Illinois have already faced lawsuits over their immigration policies. Others on the list include Delaware, Nevada, Minnesota and D.C.The lawsuit in Illinois is the furthest along in the court process and has not played out in DOJs favor at this stage. A federal judge tossed out the Justice Department's claims, saying Illinois state and local policies were protected by the Constitution and that the DOJs lawsuit encroached on Illinois sovereignty. Jose Quintana (3.44 ERA), Chad Patrick (3.52 ERA) and the flame-throwing rookie Jacob Misiorowski (2.70 ERA over 33.1 innings) have all been solid options for the Brewers in the rotation this year.Then, when its time to shut the door on the opponent, the Brewers can count on closer Trevor Megill to end it. From Williams Contreras to Rhys Hoskins, to Brice Turang, to Sal Frelick, and the list goes on, these Brewers are relentless when its their turn to produce offense.Will that last through an October postseason run? From "Alligator Alcatraz" to a new "Deportation Depot," Florida says it is leading the way in enforcing federal immigration laws.Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that the state will open a new immigration detention center dubbed "Deportation Depot" at a shuttered former prison in Sanderson, north Florida, expanding the states capacity to hold and deport migrants.The new facility will be located at Baker Correctional Institution, about 43 miles west of Jacksonville and will initially hold 1,300 beds and can be expandable to 2,000.RED STATES CONSIDER ALLIGATOR ALCATRAZ SPINOFFS AS WH URGES THEM TO FOLLOW DESANTIS LEAD: 'LOTS OF BEARS'DeSantis said the facility, which has been dormant since 2021, will build on the success of Alligator Alcatraz in the Everglades and is expected to be operational in two to three weeks with staffing by the Florida National Guard and state contractors."Theres a massive part here at Baker Correctional thats vacant and isnt being used for any state correction activity," DeSantis said at a press briefing. "Talk about ready-made infrastructure, this is something thats very appealing from that perspective."DeSantis touted the relative ease and economy of setting up the northern Florida facility, estimating the build-out cost to be $6 million. Thats compared to thehundreds of millions of dollarsthe state has committed to constructing thevast network of tents and trailersat the south facility in the rugged and remote Florida swamp."This part of the facility is not being used right now for the state prisoners. The D.C. attorney general on Friday sued the Trump administration over its federal takeover of the D.C. police force and its deployment of national guard troops into the city, arguing that the effort is "unlawful" and exceeds Trump's authority as commander in chief.The lawsuit, filed Friday by D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb, challenges both Trump's executive order, issued Monday, and Attorney General Pam Bondi's more recent order Thursday that seeks to assert control over the Metropolitan Police Force, sidelining current Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith.In the filing, submitted to federal court in D.C., Schwalb urged the court to block both of the administration's orders, arguing that the Trump administration's temporary takeover of DC police under Section 740 of the D.C. Home Rule Act "does not authorize this brazen usurpation of the Districts authority over its own government."Schwalb also asked the court to overturn Bondi's order asserting control of the local police force."That narrow statute permits the President and his delegee to request that the Mayor provide the "services" of MPDnothing more.
