A judge appeared skeptical on Wednesday of the Department of Justice's arguments related to an unusual lawsuit the Trump administration brought against all 15 district court judges in Maryland challenging a court order.Judge Thomas Cullen of the Western District of Virginia questioned the DOJ over the lawsuit, which alleges that the Maryland district court overstepped its authority by imposing a standing order that automatically pauses deportation cases for two days when they are first filed.Cullen, a Trump appointee, told DOJ attorneys early on in the hearing he was wary of their position."One of the things about me is that I dont have a very good poker face, and you probably picked up on the fact that I have some skepticism," Cullen said.TRUMP DHS SUES ENTIRE BENCH OF FEDERAL JUDGES IN MARYLAND DISTRICT COURT OVER AUTOMATIC INJUNCTIONSThe Virginia federal judge is presiding over the case in Baltimore because the Maryland judges recused themselves. Cullen said he would issue a decision by Labor Day on whether he would block the standing order.DOJ attorney Elizabeth Hedges argued during the hearing that the Maryland court's order had the effect of "tampering with the [U.S.] attorney generals discretion" over immigration enforcement matters.The order requires clerks to immediately enter administrative injunctions that last two business days in cases brought by alleged illegal immigrants who are challenging their detentions or removals. The injunctions have the effect of temporarily barring the Department of Homeland Security from deporting or changing the legal status of an immigrant until a judge has time to review the case.Hedges argued that the judges automatically enter the orders in these cases even if the court lacks jurisdiction in some of them.The lawsuit, brought in June, comes as the Trump administration has taken an aggressive public posture against individual federal judges who have blocked enforcement of many of the president's executive actions, including in areas of immigration, education and federal agency cuts.President Donald Trump has complained his agenda has been hamstrung and has called for the impeachment of certain judges whose orders he disagrees with. Clement said it was "fundamentally incompatible" with the separation of powers."We just dont have a tradition of suits that are executive versus judiciary, executive versus Congress, Congress versus the executive," Clement said, adding that "we dont really expect one branch to sue another to try to vindicate its institutional interests."The lawsuit also comes as Trump's mass deportation agenda has encountered some roadblocks as immigrants raise court challenges and appeals to their removals.Perhaps the most prominent instance of this occurred in Maryland, where Judge Paula Xinis, now one of the 15 defendants in the lawsuit against the judges, ordered the government to return Salvadoran national Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the U.S. after the Trump administration admitted to the court it mistakenly deported him to a prison in El Salvador.Abrego Garcia has since been returned and is facing criminal charges of transporting illegal immigrants. He has pleaded not guilty.

The family of Martha Nolan, an Irish bikini designer who was found dead aboard a yacht in Montauk, has met with Suffolk County homicide detectives, their attorney confirmed Wednesday.Arthur Aidala, representing the family, said they are in contact with the district attorneys office and that the investigation remains active, with witness interviews and technological analyses still underway.Such analyses can include examining phones, GPS data, and other electronic evidence to piece together a timeline of events leading up to Nolan's death on Aug. 5."The family has had to sit down with the Suffolk County homicide detectives. A Saratoga County man is facing federal charges for allegedly terrorizing the grieving family of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson just hours after the healthcare executive was gunned down in midtown Manhattan late last year.Shane Daley, 40, of Galway, New York, was arrested Wednesday and charged with cyberstalking after federal prosecutors say he sent harassing and threatening voicemail messages to a family member of Thompson.Between Dec. 4-7, 2024, and beginning just hours after Thompsons murder, Daley allegedly placed multiple calls to a work phone line used by a member of Thompsons family.In a series of voicemail messages, Daley used threatening and harassing language that focused on Thompsons killing, expressed satisfaction over the manner of his death and declared that the victim and Thompsons children "deserved to meet the same violent end," according to a criminal complaint unsealed Wednesday.LUIGI MANGIONE DEFENSE SHARED SAME RECORDS THEY CLAIMED CONSTITUTED PRIVACY VIOLATION: PROSECUTORS"Brian Thompson was gunned down in midtown Manhattan," said acting U.S. Attorney John A. A fitness trend that took TikTok by storm, racking up more than 14 million views, may have some science behind it.The 12-3-30 treadmill workout, popularized by influencer Lauren Giraldo, promises a fat-burning, low-impact fitness solution: Walk at a 12% incline, at a pace of three miles per hour, for 30 minutes.But how does it compare to regular running?FORGET 10,000 STEPS RESEARCH REVEALS THE REAL NUMBER YOU NEED FOR BETTER HEALTHA new peer-reviewed study published in the International Journal of Exercise Science compares the 12-3-30 trend to "self-paced" treadmill running.Researchers sought to determine not just how many calories each method burns, but how the body fuels each workout specifically, whether the body uses carbohydrates or fat as fuel.In the study, 16 healthy young adults (male and female) participated in two workouts: one session of 12-3-30 and one session of running at a pace they could maintain for about 20 to 25 minutes.Both workouts were adjusted to burn the same total number of calories.SIMPLE JAPANESE FITNESS TREND COULD ADD 7 YEARS TO LIFE EXPECTANCY, EXPERTS SAYThe researchers discoveredthat 12-3-30 took longer to complete than running to achieve the same output.Running burned calories faster roughly 13 calories per minute versus 10 calories per minute for 12-3-30.Maelee Wells Sutton, a certified personal trainer at Crunch Fitness in New York, told Fox News Digital that it is "no surprise" calories are burned faster during a workout with higher aerobic intensity."Walking at 12-3-30 is certainly more intense than walking on a flat surface, but is less intense than a run," she said.However, 12-3-30 used more fat as a fuel source about 41% of energy came from fat, compared to 33% during running. Running also relied more heavily on carbohydrates for energy.The participants in the study were already exercising at least three times a week for the last three months, according to Sutton."That means [the study] doesnt consider less active individuals, who actually make up a large percentage of the population," she said. "Essentially, we cant draw conclusions about how the average persons body may adapt to these workouts over time."The researchers emphasized that the actual fat-burning advantage of 12-3-30 is modest.
