WWW.FOXNEWS.COMSophie Cunningham opens up on ex-team's treatment of Caitlin Clark, and infamous fight that chipped her toothIndiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham, the popular "enforcer" teammate of Caitlin Clark, gave an inside look into the treatment of Clark by other teams, and the consequences of the tension it has created during WNBA games.Cunningam revealed how her former team, the Phoenix Mercury, planned to play Clarkf during the phenom's rookie season in 2024. Cunningham played her first five seasons in Phoenix before leaving to join the Fever this past offseason."You have seen players in our league try to, like, toughen up Caitlin Even when I wasn't on her team, I know the talks that Phoenix had in the locker room, like no, we're going to show her what the W really is,' and I get it to a certain extent, and every rookie coming into the league, that's how you're going to treat em, but there's just more for her," Cunningham said on her podcast.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM"And now being on her team and seeing it, I'm like what are people doing, actually, it's just too much, it's too much. I'm over it, and if I think it's too much, it's probably too much."Cunningham was on the other side of the situation when she started a fight to defend Clark during a game against the Connecticut Sun earlier this season. Cunningham said that after the game, Clark exclaimed "finally!" in the locker room."In the locker room, she goes, I think she's like, Finally!" Cunningham said. "But I think it kind of had our team together as a whole. Everyone was like, we do have to protect eachother."The scuffle went down in Connecticut on June 17, when Cunningham committed a hard foul on Sun guard Jacy Sheldon. Sheldonpoked Clark in the eye earlier in the game, and then fellow Sun player Marina Mabrey shoved Clark to the ground. So Cunningham chased Sheldon in the fourth quarter to commit a payback foul."Last second-intrusive thought, I was like f--- it,'" Cunningham said of her decision to instigate the fight.Their heated exchange turned into a shoving match before players from both teams came over to break it up.Cunningham, Sheldon and Sun guard Lindsay Allen were ejected from the game with about 40 seconds left before the Fever took home the victory. But Cunningham alleges that the interaction left its mark on her face."She didn't mean to do it, but she did chip my tooth," Cunningham said. "It's a little discolored we literally cracked teeth in the middle of the game, like, face-to-face."There's a couple players on their team that just do a little bit extra stuff."WHO IS SOPHIE CUNNINGHAM? CAITLIN CLARK'S NEW BODYGUARD TEAMMATECunningham also claimed she was fined "like, $900," by the WNBA for the fight. But also claims it was "her moment" as her followers on Instagram and TikTok quickly surged past one million in the days following the game. Cunningham previously claimed she was also fined $500 for a TikTok that jokingly criticized WNBA referees. She previously called out referees just days after the June 17 fight while speaking to reporters, for not protecting Clark, when she had to first address the fight publicly."During that, it was just part of the game. I think the refs had a lot to do with that. It was a build-up for a couple years now of them just not protecting the star player of the WNBA," Cunningham said. "At the end of the day, I'm going to protect my teammates. That's what I do."Cunningham has become a folk hero to many, and her popularity has skyrocketed in the days since the fight. With Cunningham earning the nickname "the enforcer" for the Fever, fans counting on her to protect Caitlin Clark can rest easy knowing she is a black belt in the Korean martial art of Taekwondo. She earned the black belt at the age of 6.Her father Jim played football at the University of Missouri, and she ended up following in her dad's footsteps on the football field.A 2014 article by the Columbia Missourian reported Cunningham was the first female to ever score any points for the team in history, when she kicked two of four extra points in place of the team's regular kicker, who had torn an ACL.Cunningham even handled kickoff duties."I was so nervous," Cunningham told the outlet. "I mean, I've never played football before in all my life. Right when I got the ball (on the opening kickoff), I couldn't hear anything. I just put the ball down and kicked it."Cunningham comes from a family of farmers and credits that upbringing for the person she is today, according to five-part feature series by the University of Missouri."So much of our success goes back to what we learned here," Cunningham said of working on the farm. "We loved coming out to the farm to help. We found out how to work hard and work together. It made us farm strong."Follow Fox News Digitalssports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 43 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMCincinnati city councilwoman: Victims of mob attack 'begged for that beat down'CINCINNATI - A city councilwoman in Cincinnati is under fire for comments posted on Facebook in the wake of a brutal downtown beatdown last weekend.Under a post from a Facebook user called Leohna Alia La JCannon that shows the vicious assault, an account that appears to belong to Councilwoman Victoria Parks commented, "They begged for that beat down!""I am grateful for the whole story," the comment continues.DOJ, FBI INVESTIGATE BRUTAL CINCINNATI ASSAULT CAPTURED IN VIRAL VIDEOThe comment links back to a Facebook account for Victoria Parks, who lists her job title as City Council Member at City of Cincinnati Government. The account also says she was formerly the commissioner at Hamilton County, Ohio Government and the former Chief of Staff to Hamilton County Commissioner Todd Portune at Hamilton County. That information lines up with Parks' biography on the City of Cincinnati's official website. Cincinnati's city council is officially nonpartisan, but Parks, like all nine members of the governing body, was endorsed by the local Democratic party. The Facebook page has posts dating back several years, mostly relating to work experience.Parks appears to have a second Facebook page as well, which last posted on May 27.A third account, last posted updated 2022, also appears to belong to Parks.TWO ARRESTED IN BRUTAL CINCINNATI MOB ATTACK; ONE WAS FREED ON BAIL DESPITE SERIOUS CHARGESThe comments sparked an online firestorm, with a screenshot of the post being circulated widely."Cincinnati Councilwoman Victoria Parks must resign immediately! Defending violent criminals who viciously beat innocent people is disgusting," Ohio's 39th District State Rep. Phil Plummer said on X. "Her words They begged for that beat down! are outrageous. Prosecutors must charge the attackers with a hate crime. We must protect our streets!""Youre a racist pig, Victoria Parks," said another post."THIS IS INSANE!" said a third person, calling for Parks' resignation. The beatings occurred on the corner of Fourth and Elm Street in Cincinnati's downtown business district in the early morning hours on Saturday. Video that has been shared widely online shows a group of people savagely assaulting two others during a confrontation, with a woman being knocked out cold in the street. In her official city biography page, Parks says she "led the charge in passing Racism as a Public Health Crisis" when working for the Hamilton County governor. It also says she "introduced, and passed, Juneteenth as a paid holiday for Hamilton County employees."In January, Parks announced that she would not seek reelection, and will retire after her current term ends."Its unconscionable that an elected official would be celebrating violence in the very city she was voted to serve," Cincinnati Fraternal Order of Police President Ken Kober told Fox News Digital. "This highlights the poor political environment that police officers, residents and visitors are currently enduring. Thankfully, there's an election in November. I urge voters to vote for change!"Parks did not return requests for comment. An email to the entire city council also went unreturned. A representative for the city council declined to comment by phone, directing Fox News Digital to Parks herself.Mollie Lair, the Communications Director for the Cincinnati City Manager's Office, viewed the photo in person at city hall, but declined to comment.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 43 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMWoman saves husband's life with bear spray during grizzly attack in wildernessA husband and wife's leisurely bike ride along a Canadian trail took a terrifying turn over the weekend when they spooked two grizzly bears, causing them to attack.Local authorities said quick thinking by the woman likely saved both their lives as she used bear spray to drive the animals away. The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, while the couple was riding e-bikes near the Kootenay River. According to the British Columbia Conservation Officer Service (COS), the bears attacked after being surprised. The woman told authorities she heard her husband yell before seeing a bear charge toward her. As she reached for her bear spray, she noticed another grizzly attacking her husband. She deployed the spray again, successfully driving both bears away.POLICE OFFICIALS HOST 'BEAR DRILLS FOLLOWING STRING OF BEAR ATTACKSOfficials said the man suffered serious injuries and was transported by emergency responders to a hospital, where he underwent surgery. He is expected to recover."The couple was well-prepared," said COS Inspector Dave Webster in a Facebook post. "They had bear spray, kept it accessible, and knew how to use it. Their actions were commendable, and we urge anyone in bear country to take similar precautions."Following the attack, officers interviewed the victims, inspected the scene and consulted a carnivore expert, who concluded that the bears were likely acting defensively.POLICE OFFICIALS HOST 'BEAR DRILLS FOLLOWING STRING OF BEAR ATTACKSIn a statement released two days after the encounter, the COS confirmed that the bears' behavior appeared to be a defensive response and that the couple had likely caught the animals off guard in a dense section of the trail. There were no indications that the bears had been tracking or hunting the pair, and no recent signs of bear aggression had been reported in the area.ALASKA HIKER MAULED BY BEAR RESCUED WITH HELP OF ADVANCED DRONE TECHNOLOGY ON REMOTE TRAILOfficers searched the area that day but found no sign of the bears. Authorities closed three main trails and set traps, though no animals were captured. A follow-up search the next day also resulted in no sightings.SECURITY FOOTAGE SHOWS DOG'S DRAMATIC SHOWDOWN WITH FULL-SIZED BEAR INSIDE CALIFORNIA HOMEBecause the bears appeared to be acting in self-defense, wildlife officials decided not to pursue or relocate them.Officials emphasized that bear spray is a proven, effective deterrent against bear attacks."Like a seat belt, it should be considered essential safety equipment when traveling in wildlife country," the organization shared in a resource guide on their website.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 44 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση
