WWW.FOXNEWS.COMMamdani's past 'defund the police' stance resurfaces after deadly Manhattan shootingNew York City Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mandani is facing renewed scrutiny for his past stances on policing in the wake of an office building mass shooting in midtown Manhattan that left three civilians dead as well as a male off-duty police officer who was working security. The shooter was neutralized as more information is being learned about the alleged gunman, Shane Tamura of Las Vegas."Im heartbroken to learn of the horrific shooting in Midtown and I am holding the victims, their families, and the NYPD officer in critical condition in my thoughts. Grateful for all of our first responders on the ground," Mamdani posted to X on Monday night.ADAMS, CUOMO TRADE JABS IN INTERVIEWS AS DEMS-TURNED-INDEPENDENTS COURT ANTI-MAMDANI VOTEIn the replies, people quickly shared images of a June 8, 2020, post where Mamdani said "No, we want to defund the police" and a Nov. 5, 2020, post where he said "Queer liberation means defund the police.""We don't need an investigation to know that the NYPD is racist, anti-queer & a major threat to public safety. What we need is to #DefundTheNYPD. But your deal with [New York City mayor] uses budget tricks to keep as many cops as possible on the beat. NO to fake cuts - defund the police," he posted on June 28, 2020.In December of the same year, he also called for it to be "dismantled.""All this misery. All for money. In the last budget, the City Council tried to make the NYPD reduce its overtime budget by half. They simply refused. There is no negotiating with an institution this wicked & corrupt. Defund it. Dismantle it. End the cycle of violence," he wrote.RESURFACED VIDEO SHOWS ZOHRAN MAMDANI SAYING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE WOULDNT BE A PRIORITY FOR THE NYPDHowever, he sang a different tune during a mayoral debate in his primary."I will not defund the police. I will work with the police because I believe the police have a critical role to play in public service, public safety," he said.On his campaign website, he calls for the creation of a Department of Public Safety."Police have a critical role to play. But right now, were relying on them to deal with the failures of our social safety netwhich prevents them from doing their actual jobs. Through this new city agency and whole-of-government approach, community safety will be prioritized like never before in NYC," the website states.Other mayoral candidates also condemned the tragedy in Manhattan on Monday night, including incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, himself a former city police officer.AOC-BACKED SOCIALIST MAYORAL CANDIDATE BACKTRACKS AFTER CALLING TO 'DISMANTLE' POLICE IN 2020"I am going to over to the hospital to speak with the families and loved ones involved in this incident," Adams said in a video."Horrified by the shooting in Midtown. Im grateful for the courage of our NYPD and first responders, and my prayers are with the victims and their families," former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo posted."Disturbing reports out of Midtown Manhattanmultiple people reportedly shot, including an NYPD officer. Praying for everyone affected. Grateful to our first responders who run toward danger to keep us safe," Republican mayoral nominee Curtis Sliwa wrote. The four-way mayoral race is on Nov. 4. Adams opted to run as an Independent after being the Democratic nominee last cycle, and Cuomo's decision to remain in the race comes after Mamdani defeated him in the primary in what some considered an upset victory.Fox News Digital reached out to Mamdani's campaign for comment, but they did not immediately respond0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 34 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMEpstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell plays model inmate as she seeks path out of prisonAs Jeffrey Epsteins most notorious accomplice and former girlfriend is angling to have her criminal conviction dropped, a look at Ghislaine Maxwells life behind bars could offer clues about her motivations outside of prison.Maxwell has reportedly rebranded herself while serving out her two-decades-long sentence for her involvement in Epsteins sex crimes."I did a double take, because I recognized her face immediately from the news," Jessica Watkins, a former Oath Keeper who was imprisoned in the same low-security Florida facility as Maxwell, told the Daily Mail. "I was like, Is that who I think it is?"EPSTEIN ACCOMPLICE GHISLAINE MAXWELL COULD BE EYEING THREE OUTCOMES AS SHE MEETS WITH DOJ AGAIN: EXPERTWatkins was initially sentenced to 8.5 years in prison for her involvement in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Her sentence was commuted by President Donald Trump on his first day back in office earlier this year."My friend who was with me was like, I don't know - who is it?" Watkins said. "I caught her up on the situation. Started asking around and it was definitely her."She and Maxwell would converse regularly often while the pair were exercising in the open-air prison yard with Maxwell only bringing up her case on occasion, Watkins told the outlet.TIMELINE OF JEFFREY EPSTEIN CASE"We dont talk about cases as inmates because people will think youre a snitch," Watkins explained. "Its an unspoken rule among inmates. You dont ask."However, Watkins reportedly could only recall one time when Maxwell mentioned Epstein."She did say that the DOJ had no interest in her until after, her exact words were until after Jeffrey, and then she paused for a second and said died," Watkins said. "That was the only time he ever came up."JEFFREY EPSTEIN CASE REOPENS FOCUS ON GHISLAINE MAXWELL AS DEPUTY AG STEPS INDuring the pairs time together in prison, Watkins noticed Maxwell "didnt seem unduly worried" while behind bars, adding, "She seemed very at ease, very calm and approachable."Her reportedly calm demeanor makes sense to former Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg, who was elected into office six years after Epsteins case concluded."The other inmates know who she is and why shes behind bars," Aronberg told Fox News Digital. "Im sure a lot of the other inmates have their hands out. They want the commissary money. They want a free education from her, whatever she can provide."EPSTEINS FORMER LAWYER: GHISLAINE MAXWELL SHOULD GET IMMUNITY IN EXCHANGE FOR SECRETSWhile in prison, Maxwell offers legal advice and classes to her fellow inmates, often helping individuals access the necessary forms related to their case and working in the law library, according to Watkins."She was very concerned about peoples medical well-being," Watkins said. "So she did have that kind side to her."She also reportedly focused her free time on reading books, working on her own case or working out foregoing the prisons television privileges.DOJ REJECTS GHISLAINE MAXWELLS APPEAL IN SCOTUS RESPONSEHowever, her work behind bars could indicate an attempt to win over her fellow inmates favor while leveraging her educational background, according to Aronberg."She had status when she was not behind bars," Aronberg said. "She took that into the prison facility with her, and she is using that."Watkins also described how she and Maxwell found a friendship in their choice to not partake in drug use while locked up."We avoided most of the inmates [because] they were high all the time, and we didnt want to be around that," Watkins told The Daily Mail. "[Maxwell] would gravitate towards people who were also sober."Watkins' attorney did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.JEFFREY EPSTEIN THROWN OUT OF MAR-A-LAGO FOR HIRING THE HELP: TRUMPMaxwells reported decision to not use recreational drugs while in prison could be a larger move to remain out of trouble while she makes a bid for freedom, according to Aronberg."An inmates good behavior wont impact their ability to get a new trial," Aronberg told Fox News Digital. "But it does impact their ability to get clemency."Aronberg pointed to Maxwells two days of meetings with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche last week, as President Donald Trump commented on his ability to hand the convicted criminal a pardon.TRUMP DROPS EPSTEIN-LINKED NAMES THAT MEDIA OUGHT TO BE SPEAKING ABOUT AMID FILES FIRESTORM"This is a convicted sex trafficker," Aronberg said. "This is someone who committed sexual assault on minors. This is someone who is indicted for perjury. And yet, she got a private audience with the No. 2 person at the DOJ. Had she been less of a model prisoner behind bars, perhaps the administration wouldn't be rushing to meet with her and believe her in what she's saying."Blanche spent nearly two days at a federal courthouse in Tallahassee interviewing Maxwell, who answered questions "about 100 different people," according to her attorney."She never invoked a privilege," David Oscar Markus told reporters on Thursday. "She never refused to answer a question, so were very proud of her."EPSTEINACCOMPLICE GHISLAINE MAXWELL HOPES FOR TRUMP PARDON AFTER DOJ MEETING, ATTORNEY SAYSThe talks come as a House committee subpoenaed Maxwell to testify in a congressional deposition over her knowledge of the scope of Epsteins crimes, while lawmakers continue to demand the DOJ hands over files related to the case. However, Aronberg urges caution from federal prosecutors when taking Maxwells words at face-value."If you're a model prisoner behind bars, then prosecutors are more likely to believe that you really are trying to do the right thing, you're reformed and you are telling the truth this time around," Aronberg said. "But it's hard to ignore the fact that she is a liar."On Monday, Maxwells legal team submitted a brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear her appeal of her federal sex trafficking conviction, citing the governments "obligation to honor" an agreement struck by Epstein that should have shielded Maxwell from any criminal charges.JEFFREY EPSTEIN ACCOMPLICE GHISLAINE MAXWELL TO SEE HOW FEDS MEETING PLAYS OUT AMID SUBPOENA: BROTHERFederal prosecutors have argued the deal only applied in Florida, ultimately ruling out Maxwells case in New York."No one is above the law not even the Southern District of New York," Markus said in a statement. "Our government made a deal, and it must honor it. The United States cannot promise immunity with one hand in Florida and prosecute with the other in New York."Markus went on to appeal to Trump, who has previously said he has the power to pardon Maxwell but has "not thought about" doing so."President Trump built his legacy in part on the power of a dealand surely he would agree that when the United States gives its word, it must stand by it," Markus said. "We are appealing not only to the Supreme Court but to the President himself to recognize how profoundly unjust it is to scapegoat Ghislaine Maxwell for Epsteins crimes, especially when the government promised she would not be prosecuted."The DOJ did not immediately respond to Fox News Digitals request for comment.Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence for her role in Epsteins scheme to sexually abuse numerous young girls. She is anticipated to testify under oath on Aug. 11 at or near the federal prison she is currently serving her sentence in."Jeffrey Epstein could not do what he did without Ghislaine Maxwell," Aronberg said. "Shes no victim. She is the devils accomplice."0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 15 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMPrince William and Prince George to be separated by morbid rule for monarchys protection: expertsPrince George recently turned 12 years old, and according to royal experts, one "morbid rule" is now expected to go into effect.Royal protocol advises that George will no longer be allowed to fly with his father, Prince William. Heirs are required to fly separately to preserve the line of succession should an accident occur while they are traveling. William, 43, is heir to the throne."The Prince and Princess of Wales and their children are the future of the royal family," royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox News Digital. "Accidents do happen, and this seems like a sensible precaution which ought to be observed, as it was with King Charles and William during Queen Elizabeth's reign."PRINCE WILLIAM'S ROYAL PLAN LEAVES NO ROOM FOR PRINCE HARRY'S 'AMERICAN CHILDREN': EXPERT"There are reports that the king and William, who is a pilot, disagree over this," Fitzwilliams shared. "But it should be necessary to point out that Harry is fifth in line to the throne... and only four working royals are under 70 The need for Prince George as second in line to the throne to fly separately from his father surely makes sense."Fox News Digital reached out to Kensington Palace for comment.WATCH: PRINCE WILLIAM ADAMANT ABOUT GIVING HIS CHILDREN A NORMAL LIFE: AUTHORThe kings former pilot, Graham Laurie, previously confirmed on "A Right Royal Podcast" that he initially flew Charles, William, Harry and Princess Diana together, but that changed when William turned 12, Us Weekly reported."After that, he had to have a separate aircraft, and we could only fly all four together when they were young with the written permission of Her Majesty," said Laurie, as quoted by the outlet. "When William became 12, he would fly normally in a 125 from Northolt, and we would fly the 146 out with the other three on."British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard claimed to Fox News Digital that the king had made it known that he expected George to travel separately from his father. She noted that father and son will have to "adjust to the change.""Traditional royal travel protocol expects a future heir to travel separately from their father, especially when 12 years old," Chard explained. "Direct heirs should not fly together. Previous generations left children at home with governesses when traveling. This, however, caused a lot of upset for the children. King Charles can vouch for this; he desperately missed his parents when they were away on tour."Still, Chard said that its likely George and William will ease into the change."This important matter is being debated as it could impact the future of the monarchy," she claimed. "Travel arrangements for the heir to the throne are important at any age. And the Wales family have always traveled together There are many rules, expectations and traditions that the royal family is expected to follow."CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTERBritish royals expert Hilary Fordwich pointed out to Fox News Digital that the rule isnt set in stone. However, she noted that its a travel protocol that monarchs have taken seriously over the years."Rules, such as not traveling by plane or car together, now that Prince George is 12, are unwritten but a tradition," she explained. "This ensures that the next in line and heir are not lost. It has, on occasion, been relaxed or bent. Now, with the kings health issues, combined with his advanced age, it is considered extremely important to ensure Prince Georges safety.""Prince William and Princess Catherine are adhering to many rules, especially those protecting the succession," Fordwich shared. "But to a certain extent, theyve reinterpreted other rules, relaxing or even disregarding others, in an admirable attempt to become a more relatable modern family. Every royal generation has likewise updated traditions, thereby remaining relevant.""The restrictions on William and George flying together are a decades-long edict to ensure continuityshould one die in a travel accident," added royal expert Ian Pelham Turner."Whether this will change or be challenged by William in the future and break decades of tradition is not known," he said. "But these days, with the royal family, that is not uncommon."Royal author Robert Jobson previously wrote in his biography, "Catherine, the Princess of Wales," that the king "raised concerns" with William over his helicopter use with his wife, Kate Middleton, and their three children. William had expressed a strong desire to fly with his entire family.LIKE WHAT YOURE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSNot only did this reportedly spark a tense disagreement, but the king presented William, an experienced pilot, with "a formal document acknowledging the risks involved and taking full responsibility for his actions."A spokesperson for Kensington Palace, which handles the offices of the Prince and Princess of Wales, didnt immediately respond to Fox News Digitals request for comment. A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace declined to comment."There have been several royals who have perished in plane crashes," Fordwich previously explained to Fox News Digital. "As a result,Queen Elizabeth II was particularly sensitive regarding who could and would be permitted to fly together. Rules were put in place years ago regarding the prohibition of royal heirs from flying together.""Much of the royal protocol was insisted upon by the late Queen Elizabeth II," Chard pointed out.Still, the Prince and Princess of Wales arent afraid to bend the rules on occasion, she said."[In the past], Prince George would have endured certain rites of passage," Chard explained. "However, the Prince and Princess of Wales do not agree with some of the old-fashioned traditions, such as the blooding ritual, especially when these traditions are not etched in stone. This makes perfect sense as some expectations, especially trivial and old-fashioned etiquette, are no longer relevant in today's modern world.""A few traditions that the Prince and Princess of Wales have broken tend to be fashion-related. I imagine not complying with some of the protocol is a much-welcomed shift.""The royals are far more touchy-feely these days, selfies are occasionally permitted, especially by William," said Fitzwilliams. "The king is a hugger, and William and Catherine communicate by video. The succession to the throne is pivotal to the future of the monarchy, and the deep rift in the royal family underlines its importance. [Still], George should not fly in the same aircraft as his father."Christopher Andersen, author of "The King," previously told Fox News Digital that once George turned 12, he and his father would mark the beginning of a lifestyle change after the "morbid rule" kicks in."Starting at age 12, heirs to the throne are required to take air trips separately to preserve the line of succession should an accident occur," said Andersen at the time."When William turned 12, he began flying in a separate royal jet apart from his father and brother Harry," he shared. "It's a morbid rule, but then again, when theyturn 16, all senior royals are also asked to help plan their own funerals."0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 15 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

WWW.FOXNEWS.COM'Fantastic Four' stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby's handsy behavior raises eyebrows and movie hype: expertPedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby, whose recent flirtatious behavior towards one another has raised eyebrows, are just two of Hollywood's mega-stars who have sparked romance rumors from handsy, red-carpet appearances. From gentle neck rubs to hand-holding, the superhero power couple who play Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic and Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman in the Marvel film, "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" have been noticeably touchy with one another while promoting the movie. But Pascal, who recently admitted physical touch helps him cope with anxieties, said there's nothing more to it.SCARLETT JOHANSSON DEFENDS VIRAL RED CARPET KISSES WITH CO-STAR JONATHAN BAILEY"I was always one to reach out when Im facing something that is challenging or making me anxious," the actor, 50, told Men's Health.Kirby also defended her co-star's actions. Recalling the time in which Pascal caught heat after grabbing her hand during an appearance at Comic Con last year, Kirby told Vanity Fair the gesture was innocent."What happened is we were both incredibly nervous going out in front of thousands of people who love this comic," Kirby said. "He wanted me to know that we were in this together, and I found it a lovely gesture and was very glad to squeeze his hand back."However, Doug Eldridge, founder of Achilles PR, said stars often use this tactic as a way to create buzz.LIKE WHAT YOURE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS"Nine times out of 10, this tactic is used as a buzz-builder, whether for the studio that financed the film, or the actors themselves, especially if the latter are up-and-comers, who haven't developed household name recognition yet. But again, there is always the '10th time' which could bring skepticism and, more importantly, scrutiny.""Pascal uses touch as a 'grounding' technique to navigate social situations, which might otherwise trigger his anxiety. Skeptics claim that's a farce, but clinical professionals have acknowledged the validity of this technique," Eldridge continued. "Wherever you fall on this particular case, the real 'winner' is the studio, as the internet has been filled with clicks and commentary surrounding Pascal, all of which creates a groundswell of buzz and potential 'butts in the buckets' for the upcoming release of The Fantastic Four re-make."Steve Honig, founder of The Honig Company, told Fox News Digital that it's common for stars to use their on-screen and off-screen chemistry to their advantage during the promotional period of their upcoming project."There are many ways co-stars can show chemistry on the red carpet without crossing the line into something that might be construed as inappropriate. The key here is to keep it fun and light, not sexual or anything heavy," Honig said. "At the end of the day, a red carpet is a place of work for actors, so the general rule of thumb is to not do anything a civilian shouldnt do in their workplace."CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER"Oftentimes, the intent of red carpet PDA is to generate some additional buzz for the film," he continued. "This can, however, easily backfire and generate negative press about the questionable behavior. Red carpets are great stomping grounds for celebrities to build their brands, and they should use premieres and other red carpet events to that end.""Celebrities, and their reps, need to remember that, unlike Las Vegas, what happens on the red carpet does not always stay on the red carpet," he added. "What happens at a premiere can, and often does, have a huge and lasting impact not only on the specific project but a celebritys overall image. This can spill over to other projects, endorsements and either damage or build a celebritys brand."Last month, Scarlett Johansson spoke out after her red carpet kisses with her "Jurassic World Rebirth" co-star Jonathan Bailey went viral. The 40-year-old actress and 37-year-old actor made headlines after locking lips at their film's premiere in London on June 17. On June 23, the two shared another kiss at "Jurassic World Rebirth's" premiere in New York City, where Johansson's husband, "Saturday Night Live" star Colin Jost, was in attendance.During a recent episode of "Today," host Craig Melvin told Johansson that he wanted to ask her about "this kissing thing that you and Jonathan have been doing all over the world."Melvin went on to note that Bailey was "so attractive," to which Johansson responded, "Yeah, you said it!""Is that why we keep planting lips on him?" Melvin asked."Hes a lovable guy, what can I say?" Johansson replied. "I don't know. We're just friendly people."When Melvin asked whether she was surprised by the public attention to the pair's kisses, Johansson told him, "Nothing surprises me, you know what I mean?"GLEN POWELL DODGES SYDNEY SWEENEY DATING RUMORS AFTER THE PAIR REUNITE AT FAMILY WEDDING"Nothing surprises me these days," she continued. "But, yeah, Ive got a lot of love to give, what can I say?"In 2023, Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, who starred together in "Anyone But You," sparked romance rumors as fans caught glimpses of the two filming. At the time, the duo appeared on the "Today" show to promote the film and their friendship was questioned by Hoda Kotb, who asked if there was "a little romance" going on at any point.Throughout the interview, Sweeney and Powell shared little looks, and the "Euphoria" star couldn't stop giggling. While Sweeney laughed in response to the question about their relationship status, Powell answered: "No, but we do love each other. And, honestly, this is one of the most spectacular humans Ive ever met. Shes really great."In September 2021, Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain were the stars of a viral video from their appearance at the Venice International Film Festival in 2021 to promote their show "Scenes From a Marriage," where fans noted the pair seemed to be a little too comfortable with each other. In the viral video, the two were posing with their arms around each other for photos. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until Isaac appeared to kiss and sniff Chastain's underarm area. Isaac spoke on SiriusXM's "The Jess Cagle Show" at the time and offered an explanation for the odd sniffing by comparing himself and Chastain to flatworms."You know, you can cut them into like a hundred pieces and they will grow a whole new worm out of the little piece. So they're basically kind of immortal, and they've been doing work at the cellular level where they're seeing that the cells kind of talk to each other through electricity and kind of decide, Okay you're going to make the head.' All right, Im going to make the tail'they're communicating through some sort of electro kind of magnetic situation," Isaac explained."Maybe we should use more actual human language to talk instead of sniffing an armpit and doing things like that," Isaac said. "That's kind of what starts to happen and no matter how much we annoy each other, no matter what happens, it's like, when you get us together, it's like, it's just other stuff that's going on that is making us grow two heads."While Eldridge said the public displays of affection during press are "seldom authentic," some are truly genuine."It is seldom authentic, but a good rule of thumb is to stay away from terms like 'always' and 'never.' Point being, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have been together since 1983. Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have been married for 40 years. Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Geller have been married for 22 years. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have been married for 10 years. Improbable and impossible are not the same thing. Just because 'most' of these relationships are manufactured, doesn't mean 'all' of them are.""It's not a question of good or bad [press], but rather inevitable," he said. "The purpose of organizing a global media junket is to drive ticket sales, but the formula is slightly more calculated than the target outcome. Again, the process is simple, not easy: build awareness, create interest/intrigue, generate a call to action."Fox News Digital's Lauryn Overhultz contributed to this report.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 14 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр
