The one thing that could protect your parents from scammers
In Greek mythology, the Sirens were creatures whose irresistible song lured sailors to their doom. Odysseus, the hero of"The Odyssey," wanted to hear that famous song. But he knew it was dangerous. So, he had his men tie him to the mast and block their ears with beeswax. Then, they sailed toward the Island of the Sirens. Why? Because Odysseus understood that once he heard their song, he wouldn't be able to resist. And that song always leads to trouble.Sign up for my FREE CyberGuy ReportGet my best tech tips, urgent security alerts, and exclusive deals delivered straight to your inbox. None of us is invulnerable, not even a hero like Odysseus. The trick is knowing what you can't resist and, one way or another, avoiding it. You can teach your parents all there is to know about modern-day fraud and the dangers of sharing personal information, but there's still this Siren song out there that will have them throwing all that knowledge out the window in a heartbeat. What this Siren song is varies from person to person and day to day. It might be a near-perfect clone of a grandchild's voice, calling in a panic and asking for an urgent transfer to bail them out of trouble, if not jail. Alternatively, a financial adviser could be deftly playing on your parents' anxieties around money since retiring. Another common scam involves a suspiciously foreign-sounding Microsoft customer-support worker calling to inform your parents that the computer they don't have or never use has been infected with a virus. The point is that all of us, no matter how well-informed, careful, or clever, can be exploited by a fast-talking scammer. All it takes is the right hook at exactly the wrong moment, and we're along for the ride. All the more so as we get older and technology advances rapidly, leaving us behind. Scammers rely on emotional reactions as much as, if not more than, ignorance. Letting your parents know about the dangers of engaging with strangers (even if they claim to be from Visa orthe IRS) is crucial, but it's not enough. Scammers exploit fear, greed, and the desire to please others or simply be a good citizen. They're experts at raising the emotional toll of interrupting, interrogating, or ignoring them. In short, getting drawn into discussions with scammers is playing with fire. So, what's the solution? Stop the scammers from making contact in the first place. They're getting your parents' contact information and much more personal data besides, from somewhere. Stop them from getting their hands on it, and they won't have the chance to manipulate your parents into doing something they'll regret.People-search sites are a great source of information for scammers. Fast, easy, and inexpensive, they fuel smaller operations and individual scammers. People-search sites are a kind of data broker; the other major kind, sometimes called private-database data brokers, are even worse. These data brokers sell personal data in bulk to other businesses. They've been caught selling the personal data of vulnerable adults before, offering data packs that focused on people who needed in-home care or were suffering from cognitive impairment or decline, for example. This is worse than posting your parents' details publicly. This is packaging up those details and marketing them directly to scammers. The good news is that adata removal service can scrub both people-search sites and the databases of those other, more shadowy data brokers clean of your parents' information. Names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, property values, health information, shopping habits, political preferences, and more. You can take all this down in one fell swoop with a personal data removal service. While no service can guarantee the complete removal of your data from the internet, a data removal service is really a smart choice. They arent cheap and neither is your privacy. These services do all the work for you by actively monitoring and systematically erasing your personal information from hundreds of websites. Its what gives me peace of mind and has proven to be the most effective way to erase your personal data from the internet. By limiting the information available, you reduce the risk of scammers cross-referencing data from breaches with information they might find on the dark web, making it harder for them to target you and your parents.Check out my top picks for data removal services and get a free scan to find out if your personal information is already out on the web by visitingCyberguy.com/Delete.Get a free scan to find out if your personal information is already out on the web:Cyberguy.com/FreeScan.At the end of the day, protecting your parents isn't just about warnings or knowledge. Ghislaine Maxwell asks Supreme Court to overturn conviction citing Epstein immunity deal
The former girlfriend and convicted accomplice of Jeffrey Epstein is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear her appeal of her 2021 sex trafficking conviction. On Monday, Ghislaine Maxwells legal team submitted a filing asking the Supreme Court to hear her appeal, according to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital. In the brief, Maxwells attorneys argue the federal government "has an obligation to honor" a 2007 non-prosecution agreement made by Epstein that they say should also shield Maxwell from criminal charges.JEFFREY EPSTEIN ACCOMPLICE GHISLAINE MAXWELL TO SEE HOW FEDS MEETING PLAYS OUT AMID SUBPOENA: BROTHER"Even more remarkably, the government advances an interpretation of its non-prosecution agreement that flips its plain meaning on its head," the brief said. "Promising not to prosecute somehow meant preserving the right to prosecute. That is not contract interpretation; it is alchemy."Federal prosecutors have previously taken the stance that the agreement made by Epstein was only valid in Florida, with Maxwells charges being brought in New York and therefore disqualifying her from benefiting from the deal. However, Maxwells defense team asserted in the brief that the terms agreed upon did not include a restriction based on location.GHISLAINE MAXWELL SUBPOENAED BY HOUSE OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE AMID EPSTEIN FILES PUSH"It is not geographically limited to the Southern District of Florida, it is not conditioned on the co-conspirators being known by the government at the time, it does not depend on what any particular government attorney may have had in his or her head about who might be a co-conspirator, and it contains no other caveat or exception. This should be the end of the discussion," the brief said.Federal prosecutors have argued Maxwell could not use the conditions outlined in the agreement because she was not a named party within it a stance that her legal team deems incorrect."The government also suggests that Petitioner is not entitled to enforce the NPA because she was not a party to it and was not named in it," the brief said. "But as the court below recognized and as hornbook contract law dictates, Maxwell has standing to enforce the agreement as a third party beneficiary."JEFFREY EPSTEIN CASE REOPENS FOCUS ON GHISLAINE MAXWELL AS DEPUTY AG STEPS INThe move is the first step in asking the Supreme Court to take up Maxwells appeal in her longstanding bid to have her conviction overturned."No one is above the law not even the Southern District of New York," David Markus, Maxwells attorney, said in a statement. "Our government made a deal, and it must honor it. The United States cannot promise immunity with one hand in Florida and prosecute with the other in New York. President Trump built his legacy in part on the power of a deal and surely he would agree that when the United States gives its word, it must stand by it. We are appealing not only to the Supreme Court but to the President himself to recognize how profoundly unjust it is to scapegoat Ghislaine Maxwell for Epsteins crimes, especially when the government promised she would not be prosecuted."The DOJ did not immediately respond to Fox News Digitals request for comment.Maxwell is currently serving 20 years in federal prison after she was found guilty of working alongside Epstein to sexually abuse and exploit young girls.

Key Trump nominees stalled by Senate Dems puts pressure on GOP leaders
Senate Republicans have received marching orders from President Donald Trump to ram through his remaining nominees, but Democrats are slow-walking the process over some key nominations. Some of the nominees giving Senate Democrats the most heartburn include Jeanine Pirro, Emil Bove, Mike Waltz and Paul Ingrassia, all of whom Trump tapped for key roles in his administration. Most of them have all slowly moved through the process, but they are just a few of many other, less controversial figures that are being held up by delay tactics.'ALL THE OPTIONS': GOP EYES CUTTING AUGUST RECESS TO MOVE DOZENS OF TRUMP NOMINEES STALLED BY DEMSThere are now over 140 pending "civilian" nominations for positions across the gauntlet of federal agencies, ambassadorships and judgeships. While the Senate has moved at a blistering rate over the last six months to confirm nominees theyve clocked nearly 100 so far Trump has called on Republicans to stay in town rather than leave Washington for a roughly month-long break.Republicans are trying to hammer out a deal with Democrats to see that more low-hanging fruit nominees, like ambassadors, get the green light for a faster process on the Senate floor, and are willing to keep lawmakers in town over the weekend if their counterparts dont relent.SENATE VOTES TO CONSIDER FORMER TRUMP LAWYER FOR LIFETIME AS APPEALS COURT JUDGE"Democrats want to get out of here for August recess, then fine, give us a certain amount of en blocs that we can go through with non-controversial nominees," Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., said.Bove, who currently works at the Justice Department but previously served as Trumps personal attorney, has been a particular target for Democrats. Trump nominated him to serve a lifetime appointment to the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and he is nearing the end of his confirmation process.Democrats have accused Bove of being unfit for the role, and listed whistleblower allegations that he suggested the Trump administration could ignore judicial orders, among other sticking points, as reason enough to try to subvert his appointment to the bench."I have never advised a Department of Justice attorney to violate a court order," Bove said during his confirmation hearing.Hes also become a prime target of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and other Democrats, including Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, who staged a walkout in protest of his nomination during a recent hearing."He's the extreme of the extreme," Schumer said. "He's not a jurist. He's a Trumpian henchman. That seems to be the qualification for appointees these days."THUNE VOWS TO 'GRIND DOWN' DEMOCRATS AS TRUMP'S NOMINEES FACE 'UNPRECEDENTED' SENATE OBSTRUCTIONPirro, a former Fox News host who was tapped to be the top federal prosecutor in D.C., has similarly faced resistance Senate Democrats walked out of the same meeting discussing her and Boves nominations but not near the degree that Bove has. Still, she was advanced out of committee on a party-line vote, coming another step closer to taking over the position she holds in the interim on a permanent basis.Trump tapped Waltz to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, the last cabinet position to be filled by the administration.Waltz stepped away from his original role as national security advisor following "Signalgate," a highly publicized blunder that saw him add a journalist to a group chat on the messaging app Signal that included Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance and others discussing the plans and execution of a strike against Yemen. He also advanced out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.Ingrassias nomination as special counsel, a position that would see him lead the government watchdog Office of the Special Counsel, was derailed last week when his name was pulled from a list of other nominees slated to have a hearing before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.Ingrassia has come under scrutiny for his connections with Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist, and his limited career as a lawyer he graduated from law school three years ago.Fox News Digital reached out to the Senate panel for comment on Ingrassias hearing cancellation.

'Dangerous and illegal': Democrat AGs sue Trump over effort to use SNAP to locate migrants
New York Attorney General Letitia James on Monday said she is helping lead a group of 20 Democratic attorneys general in suing the Trump administration over its demands that they turn over information about food stamp recipients and applicants in their statean effort she excoriated as a "dangerous and illegal overreach" by the administration to unlawfully locate and track down illegal immigrants. The lawsuit, led by James, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, and Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, comes after the Trump administration demanded states turn over detailed personal information related to recipients and applicants of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, before July 30.The Trump administration has threatened to withhold SNAP funding from states who fail to comply with the July 30 deadlineteeing up a high-stakes, eleventh-hour court clash between Trump officials and leaders from 20 Democratic-led states.Speaking to reporters on a press call Monday, James and other attorneys general took umbrage with the new SNAP data-sharing requirement, describing it as an "illegal data grab" designed to intimidate vulnerable communities and help track down migrants who might be subject to deportation."This administration is attempting to use this program as a tool in their cruel and chaotic targeting of immigrants," James said.TRUMP FOE LETITIA JAMES LEADING CHARGE ON NEW MULTISTATE LAWSUIT OVER HHS CUTSThe lawsuit is not the first time James, a longtime Trump foe, has sparred with Trump in court since the start of his second presidential term.To date, she's joined Democratic attorneys general in more than a dozen other lawsuits challenging his early actions.Bonta, for his part, described the USDA's new demands as a cruel bait-and-switch from the Trump administration. He noted that the data the administration is allegedly attempting to mine comes from a decades-old aid program designed to help ensure that low-income families have access to food."SNAP recipients provided this information to get help to feed their familiesnot to be entered into a government surveillance database, or be used as targets for the president's inhumane immigration agenda," Bonta said on Tuesday."This kind of targeting doesn't make America safer. It threatens kids' access to school meals, it jeopardizes wildfire survivors' access to relief," he added."And it sends a chilling message: if you reach out for help, you may be punished for it."100 DAYS OF INJUNCTIONS, TRIALS AND 'TEFLON DON': TRUMP SECOND TERM MEETS ITS BIGGEST TESTS IN COURTThe trio also rejected the assertion that USDA's request for the additional SNAP data, first announced in March, was made under the guise of helping eliminate "waste and fraud" within the federal governmentnoting that the SNAP program historically has "very low rates of fraud."Rather, the Democratic attorneys general described the demand for information as a "flat-out illegal" attempt by the Trump administration to unlawfully obtain personal information about immigrants living in their states. They noted that, in addition to threatening to withhold SNAP funds, Trump officials have expanded the amount of data that states are required to submit about the individuals in the program. The new USDA demands, released last week, require states to provide a list of individuals who have applied or are currently receiving SNAP benefits, in addition to other information such as a list of their immigration statuses in the U.S., and information including their marital statuses, their residential and mailing addresses, and education and employment history, among other things. Each of the attorneys general said Monday that the program would require them to share the personal information of millions of residents in their states, dating back to 2020, and bypassing federal laws that dictate how such information can be used."This is not for research," James said. "They are basically trying to weaponize the SNAP program against immigrant communities, in violation of the law."California Attorney General Rob Bonta, for his part, described the push by the administration as an attempt to "hunt down" and obtain personal information for millions of residents in their states."They're bypassing legal procedures, ignoring privacy protections, and demanding data that federal law explicitly says can only be used for administering the SNAP program," Bonta said, noting that they "ignored hundreds of public comments pointing out major flaws in the government's plans."FEDERAL JUDGES IN NEW YORK AND TEXAS BLOCK TRUMP DEPORTATIONS AFTER SCOTUS RULINGThe lawsuit comes as James and other Democratic-led states have taken aim at Trump's sweeping policy goals and executive orders in court, which they describe as excessive and unconstitutional.Since his inauguration in January, Bonta noted, Democrat-led states have filed 35 lawsuits against the Trump administration.Bonta said Monday that the USDA requirement is a "clear violation" of the "Spending Clause, federal privacy statutes, and the USDA's own authority," prompting them to file suit."President Trump made promises to the American people and now he's breaking them," the group said Monday."He's rewriting the rules, targeting the most vulnerable and expecting states to fall in line."

Weight-loss patients taking Zepbound forced to switch to Wegovy after drop in coverage
Some patients taking GLP-1 drugs for weight loss have been forced to switch to a different medication due to a change in insurance coverage and theyre not happy about it.As of July 1, CVS Caremark one of the biggest pharmacy benefit managers in the U.S. dropped Zepbound (tirzepatide) from its preferred drug list, replacing it with Wegovy (semaglutide).Zepbound along with its counterpart diabetes medication, Mounjaro is made by Eli Lilly, while Wegovy is produced by Novo Nordisk, which also makes Ozempic.CVS CAREMARK DROPS COVERAGE OF POPULAR WEIGHT LOSS DRUGCVS Caremark blamed rising costs for the change. In a June 27 statement on its website, the company noted that "drug manufacturers are solely responsible for setting the price of drugs and have priced these medications at a high cost, making it difficult for many people to access them."In an effort to "lower out-of-pocket drug prices," CVS Caremark said it partnered with Novo Nordisk to "significantly increase access to Wegovy for our members at a more affordable price.""On July 1, 2025, we will take a formulary action to prefer Wegovy and remove Zepbound," the statement continued. "Were confident our decision to prefer Wegovy on our commercial template formularies will enable wider, more affordable coverage for weight management drugs, while preserving clinical integrity."Dr. Tro Kalayjian, a board-certified physician practicing internal and obesity medicine based in New York, noted that lack of patient choice always negatively affects patients.STUDY REVEALS PRIMARY CAUSE OF OBESITY AND IT'S NOT LACK OF EXERCISE"Some people do not tolerate certain medications, and being forced to change to a new drug presents a clear avenue to stall progress," he told Fox News Digital. "Forced switching disrupts continuity of care.""Switching drugs is not always seamless; dosing must often be re-titrated, and side effects can re-emerge."Many patients who received letters from Caremark about the switch have taken to social media to express their concerns."I was just approved for Zepbound two months ago Ive only been on it for two months and Im already down 25.8 lbs," one user wrote on Reddit. "Ive increased my dose twice since Im now in month three, and Ive had little to no side effects. Its been working so well for me, Im really nervous about having to switch medications."POPULAR WEIGHT-LOSS DRUGS SHOW PROMISING NEW POWER AGAINST DEBILITATING MIGRAINESAnother user wrote, "CVS just sent a letter stating it was no longer covered and I could transition to Wegovy. However, I did try Wegovy prior to Zepbound and it made me profusely ill. There should be exceptions to this rule. Since Im only using the shot every other week, maybe I will pay for it through their website. It works for me and I dont want to take the chance of gaining the weight back."CVS Caremark stated in its announcement that patients who previously tried Wegovy andexperienced "severe or intolerable side effects" or "did not achieve sufficient weight loss" can request a "formulary exception" to be covered for a different weight loss drug."You or your provider may initiate an exception request, which allows for a case-by-case medical necessity review to determine whether coverage for an alternative therapy is appropriate based on your clinical circumstances," the company stated.Patients can opt to purchase Zepbound directly from Eli Lilly,Kalayjian noted, but the medication is expensive, costing roughly $300-$500 per month."Unfortunately, people are so desperate they are buying research-grade versions of the medications from TikTok and social media," he warned.Kalayjian noted thatZepbound is "slightly more effective" than Wegovy, as it has an additional mechanism, but both drugs are "very similar" in their weight loss results."There is slightly less nausea and vomiting with Zepbound," he added. In a recent 72-week clinical trial published inThe New England Journal of Medicine, researchers compared the safety and efficacy of tirzepatide (Zepbound) and semaglutide (Wegovy).CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTERThe study found that tirzepatide achievedgreater weight loss, with participants shedding about 50 pounds (20.2% of their body weight). The group taking semaglutide lost an average of 33 pounds or 13.7% of their baseline weight, according to a press release summarizing the study outcome.Overall, 32% of the people taking tirzepatide lost at least 25% of their body weight; semaglutide users lost around 16%.Tirzepatide users also reported a "greater reduction in waist circumference" than those on semaglutide. For more Health articles, visitwww.foxnews.com/healthThe reported side effects were very similar for the two drugs, with 44% of people experiencing nausea and 25% having abdominal pain.Fox News Digital reached out to Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk for comment.

Dems' sanctuary policies shield 'gangbangers,' harm Latino families, businesses, says Hispanic GOP lawmaker
EXCLUSIVE: Hispanics living in Democratic-run jurisdictions are frustrated with sanctuary policies, which they feel are allowing criminal illegal aliens to prey on their communities, according to a Latino congressman from Colorado. While some Democrats and media outlets attempt to portray Hispanics as universally opposed to President Donald Trumps crackdown on illegal immigration, Rep. Gabe Evans, R-Colo., said the reality in his district is very different. Both Colorado and Denver have sanctuary policies in place that limit local law enforcements ability to cooperate with ICE and other federal immigration enforcement agencies. Evans said that this has led to a marked increase in crime and violence in his community.Earlier this year, then-acting DEA Administrator Derek Maltz said sanctuary policies had allowed Colorado to become "ground zero for some of the most violent criminals in America," including Tren de Araguas leadership.TRUMP DOJ SUES NEW YORK CITY OVER LONG-STANDING SANCTUARY IMMIGRATION POLICIESTren de Aragua also known by its acronym "TdA" is a violent Venezuelan criminal group that has been linked to some of the most high-profile crimes in America in recent years, including the murder of nursing student Laken Riley and the capturing of an apartment building in Aurora, Colorado. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Evans, a young Latino and former police officer who represents a district just north of Denver, further confirmed that sanctuary policies in his district are wreaking havoc on both Hispanic lives and businesses."In my district, we had one of the first big raids that we saw of the new administration, where over 40 Tren de Aragua gang members and their affiliates were all apprehended by the DEA working in conjunction with other agencies," he said. "We're talking guns and drugs and human trafficking and child abuse theseare the people that have been festering in our society under the sanctuary state policies in Colorado."As the only Latino member of the Colorado delegation in Congress, Evans said the sanctuary policies are personal.TRUMP'S ICE ROUNDS UP HUNDREDS OF DANGEROUS CRIMINAL IMMIGRANTS IN DENVER SWEEP"We don't want these people in our community," he said."I have conversations with my local Hispanic business owners with people that are not just major pillars of the Hispanic community, but these are also husbands and wives and moms and dads. And they don't want Tren de Aragua in their communities. They don't want their local businesses, Hispanic-owned businesses, to be burglarized or to have violence."Evans shared that one constituent who owns a Hispanic grocery store told him he was regularly losing thousands of dollars a day during the Biden administration because of illegal immigrant crime."He said the previous several years under the Biden administration were horrible because he would have illegal immigrants come into his store on a routine basis - we're talking daily or weekly - and stealing thousands of dollars of goods from him," he explained. "But because of the sanctuary state policies and because the previous administration had zero desire to enforce the law, there was nothing he could do about it."ICE DETAINERS IN TOP SANCTUARY CITY HAVE SKYROCKETED UNDER TRUMP COMPARED TO BIDEN'S 4-YEAR TERM: DHS"There was nothing that state or local law enforcement could do because they were prohibited by these sanctuary laws and the feds weren't interested. So, he watched thousands of dollars of merchandise walk out of his store on a weekly, sometimes a daily basis as a direct result of these policies. That hurts him. That hurts the Hispanic community.""We don't want drug dealers and cartels and criminals and gangbangers in our community," he went on. "So, this emphasis on cracking down on these criminal elements who are not only illegally present in the United States but are committing other crimes is long overdue, and there's a lot of support for that in the Hispanic community."Fox News Digital reached out to the office of Denver Mayor Mike Johnston for comment but did not receive a response by time of publication.
