Fake PayPal email let hackers access computer and bank account
Online scams are becoming more dangerous and convincing every day. Cybercriminals are finding new ways to gain not just your login credentials but full control of your computer and your bank accounts.Take John from King George, Virginia, for example. He recently shared his alarming experience with us. His story is a powerful warning about how quickly things can escalate if you respond to suspicious emails. Here is what happened to John in his own words: "I mistakenly responded to a false PayPal email notifying me of a laptop purchase. The message looked real, and I called the number listed. The person on the phone gave me a strange number to enter into my browser, which installed an app that took control of my PC. A warning popped up saying 'software updating do not turn off PC,' and I could see my entire file system being scanned. The scammer accessed my bank account and transferred money between accounts. He told me to leave my PC running and go to the bank, keeping him on the phone without telling anyone what was happening. I shut everything down, contacted my bank, and changed my passwords."Johns quick thinking in shutting down his computer and alerting his bank helped minimize the damage. However, not everyone is as lucky.Join the FREE "CyberGuy Report": Get my expert tech tips, critical security alerts and exclusive deals, plus instant access to myfree "Ultimate Scam Survival Guide" when you sign up!This type of scam is known as a remote access scam. It often begins with a fake email that appears to come from a trusted company like PayPal. The message claims there is an issue, such as an unauthorized charge, and urges the victim to call a phone number or click a link.WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?Once the scammer makes contact, they guide the victim to enter a code into their browser or install a program, claiming it will fix the problem. In reality, this grants the scammer full control of the victims computer.Once inside, scammers often search for sensitive files, access banking websites, steal login credentials or install malware to maintain long-term access. Even if the immediate scam is stopped, hidden malware can allow scammers to reenter the system later.THE URGENT PAYPAL EMAIL SCAM YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO IGNOREJohns close call highlights several important lessons.Fake emails are harder to spot than ever: Scammers create emails that look almost identical to real ones from trusted companies like PayPal. They copy logos, formatting and even fake customer support numbers. Always double-check the senders email address and verify communications by visiting the official website or app directly instead of clicking links inside emails.Remote access scams can escalate fast: Once scammers gain control of your device, they can steal sensitive data, move funds between accounts and install hidden malware that stays behind even after the scammer disconnects. It often takes only minutes for serious damage to be done, making fast recognition critical.Psychological pressure plays a big role: Scammers rely on creating a sense of urgency and fear. By keeping you on the phone and urging secrecy, they isolate you from help and rush you into making bad decisions. Recognizing when you are being pressured is key to breaking the scammers control.Fast action can make all the difference: By quickly disconnecting his computer and contacting his bank, John limited the scammers access to his accounts. Acting within minutes rather than hours can stop further theft, block fraudulent transactions and protect your sensitive information from being fully compromised.GET FOX BUSINESS ON THE GO BY CLICKING HEREDONT CLICK THAT LINK! HOW TO SPOT AND PREVENT PHISHING ATTACKS IN YOUR INBOXTaking simple but strong security steps can protect you from falling victim.1. Never call a number listed in a suspicious email: Scammers often set up fake phone numbers that sound professional but are designed to manipulate you into handing over control or information. Always find verified contact information through a company's official website or app, not links/numbers provided in suspicious messages.2. Be skeptical of unusual instructions: No legitimate company will ask you to install software or enter strange codes to protect your account. If anything seems unusual, trust your instincts and stop the communication immediately.3. Install strong antivirus software on all devices:Antivirus programs can detect suspicious downloads, block remote access attempts and help prevent hackers from taking over your system. Having strong antivirus protection installed across all your devices is the best way to safeguard yourself from malicious links that install malware and attempt to access your private information. This protection can also alert you to phishing emails and ransomware scams, keeping your personal information and digital assets safe.Get my picks for the best 2025 antivirus protection winners for your Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices.4. Use identity theft protection: These services monitor financial accounts, credit reports and online activity for signs of fraud, alerting you to suspicious transactions.See my tips and best picks on how to protect yourself from identity theft.5. React immediately if you suspect a scam: Disconnect your device from the internet, contact your bank or credit card company immediately and change your passwords, especially for banking and email accounts. Monitor your accounts closely for unauthorized activity and report the scam to theFederal Trade Commission as well as the company that was impersonated. Acting quickly can prevent further access and limit the damage scammers can cause.6. Use multifactor authentication (MFA):MFA adds a critical layer of security beyond passwords, blocking unauthorized logins even if credentials are stolen. Enable MFA on all accounts, especially banking, email and payment platforms, to stop scammers from bypassing stolen passwords.7. Update devices and software immediately:Regular updates patch security flaws that scammers exploit to install malware or hijack systems. Turn on automatic updates wherever possible to ensure youre always protected against newly discovered vulnerabilities.8. Employ a password manager with strong, unique passwords: Avoid password reuse and use complex passphrases to minimize credential-stuffing attacks. Apassword manager generates and stores uncrackable passwords, eliminating the risk of weak or repeated credentials. Get more details about mybest expert-reviewed password managers of 2025 here.9. Legitimate tech support will never demand unsolicited screen access; terminate the call immediately if pressured.10. Invest in personal data removal services:These services automate requests to delete your personal information from data brokers and people-search sites, reducing publicly available details scammers could exploit for phishing or impersonation. Suspected Austin Metcalf killer allowed to graduate from high school despite murder charge: report
The teenager suspected of killing high school track star Austin Metcalf will be allowed to graduate from his Frisco, Texas, high school despite being charged with first-degree murder, according to a report.Karmelo Anthony will graduate from Centennial High School, part of the Frisco Independent School District, according to WFAA. Students from that high school are set to graduate on May 22.Anthony will not be part of the graduation ceremony, according to the report."We are proud to share that Karmelo Anthony will graduate and receive his high school diploma, and that his academic achievements will not be disrupted," Next Generation Action Network (NGAN) President Dominique Alexander, a spokesman for Anthony's family, reportedly said."NGAN has worked diligently alongside the Anthony familys legal team to bring about this fair and student-focused resolution," he said. "This is a moment of dignity for Karmelo and a reminder of the power of advocacy done right."SUSPECT IN AUSTIN METCALF KILLING MOVED TO UNDISCLOSED LOCATION FOR PROTECTION: FAMILY SPOKESMANFrisco ISD Superintendent Mike Waldrip addressed what he said were false rumors that Anthony would be able to attend the graduation ceremony."Frisco ISD has learned that misinformation is being shared regarding Centennial High Schools graduation via several media outlets and perpetuated through social media," he told WFAA. "It is disheartening that the incredible accomplishments and achievements of our Centennial seniors may be dampened by needless fearmongering, attention-seeking and media vitriol. Our students, staff and community deserve better."I want to be clear. No student who commits a serious criminal offense (Title V felony) is permitted to participate in the graduation ceremony. Additionally, anyone who trespasses on Frisco ISD property or at a District event will be subject to immediate removal and possible arrest by law enforcement," he said, adding that the school district does not condone violence."We work to ensure every student is safe to learn and feels part of our culture of respect, honor and integrity," he said."Lets come together as a community to honor and support our students and staff. This moment is about their success, and they deserve our full attention and encouragement. Congratulations to the Centennial Class of 2025!"Anthony, now 18, is accused of stabbing and killing Metcalf over a dispute regarding Anthony's presence in the Memorial High School tent at the April 2 track meet.ACCUSED AUSTIN METCALF KILLER WON'T FACE DEATH PENALTY OR LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE: DAHe and his supporters claim that he acted in self-defense, and that Metcalf pushed him out of the tent. That claim is tenuous, according to Julie Rendelman, a former homicide prosecutor from New York who now runs a private criminal defense firm."If the evidence is what it is right now, I think he's going to have an uphill battle claiming self-defense," she previously told Fox News Digital. "If the scenario is that the victim told [Anthony] to leave, and then in some way physically touched him without more, then I'm not comfortable I don't believe that a self-defense claim will work."Meanwhile, Alexander has compared Anthony to figures like Kyle Rittenhouse and Daniel Penny, who have won self-defense cases in criminal court."Nobody in the public media has one video, but we got the video of Kyle Rittenhouse with an AK-47 shooting three people in the back," he said in a chaotic April 17 news conference before which Jeff Metcalf, Austin's father, was escorted off the property. "We got that, and he raised more than $2 million publicly, and nobody said anything about that."TEXAS TRACK MEET STABBING SUSPECT TOLD RESPONDING OFFICER HE 'DID IT': DOCSHe also called Anthony's detractors bigots, in what has become a racially charged public discussion."Because these racist bigots try to prevent us from standing up for our baby, our boy, he should be afforded the same rights that Kyle Rittenhouse had, Daniel Penny and all the people who have claimed whatever their defense was. He should be afforded the same right," Alexander said."What [Jeff Metcalf] has felled [sic] into is the political operatives that want to make this thing a political thing of hate and yet bigotry and yet racism," he said of Austin's father. "We have conservative operatives that have been posting nonstop about this case."NGAN and Frisco ISD declined to comment.Anthony's attorney, Mike Howard, did not return a comment request.Jeff Metcalf did not return a comment request.

Milwaukee judge indicted for helping immigrant evade ICE faces up to 6 years in prison
A Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge arrested in April for allegedly helping a man evade immigration officers in her court could face up to six years in prison if convicted, according to an indictment handed down Tuesday by a federal grand jury.Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested by FBI officials last month for allegedly "knowingly" helping an undocumented immigrant in her court evade ICE authorities and telling the officers in her court that they needed a warrant. On Tuesday, she was indicted by a grand jury on federal charges of concealing a person from arrest and on obstruction of justice charges, under 18 U.S.C. Section 1505 and 18 U.S.C. Section 1071, respectively. The indictment accuses Dugan of "falsely" telling federal officials in April that they needed a warrant to come into her court during a scheduled appearance by Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, an undocumented Mexican national who was in court on three misdemeanor battery charges.Dugan told the officers to proceed to the chief judge's office to obtain a warrant, according to the criminal complaint, and she then escorted Flores-Ruiz through a side door to evade federal agents.MILWAUKEE COUNTY JUDGE HANNAH DUGAN INDICTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY HELPING ILLEGAL ALIEN EVADE ICEIf found guilty of both charges, Dugan could face up to six years in prison and up to $350,000 in fines. She will appear in court on Thursday and is expected to enter a plea of not guilty, as indicated by a statement from her legal team on Tuesday."Judge Hannah C. Dugan has committed herself to the rule of law and the principles of due process for her entire career as a lawyer and a judge," her lawyers said, adding that their client further "asserts her innocence and looks forward to being vindicated in court."Dugan's arrest and criminal charges have become a political lightning rod at a time when the Trump administration has moved to take sweeping actions to crack down on its immigration enforcement priorities. Her actions, while controversial, have also attracted an all-star legal defense team to argue in court on her behalf.Last month, her defense team tapped former Bush-era solicitor general Paul Clemente to represent her.WISCONSIN JUDGE ACCUSED OF OBSTRUCTING ICE COULD FACE YEARS IN PRISON, DOJ HAS 'UPPER HAND': FORMER PROSECUTORClemente, who was also on Trump's short list of Supreme Court nominees during his first term, is a well-respected litigator who has argued more than 100 cases before the Supreme Court. He is also not the only Bush-era powerhouse representing her in court. Steve Biskupic, a former U.S. attorney and a George W. Bush appointee, was tapped last month to head up the team, as first reported by Law.com. Others include Craig Mastantuono of Mastantuono Coffee & Thomas and Jason Luczak and Nicole Masnica of Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown.Still, Dugan's actions have also sparked fierce backlash from Trump administration officials, including Attorney General Pam Bondi and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who have vowed to hold her accountable for her actions."She will be held accountable for that," Noem told Fox News in an interview Tuesday night. "That was a great decision, coming forward, to recognize that nobody can facilitate breaking the law."We shouldnt be able to allow that in this country, and we need to make sure that even judges are held accountable for their actions," she added.Fox News's Michael Dorgan and Greg Wehner contributed to this report.

DAVID MARCUS: The Lefts sudden epiphanies were obvious to normal folks all along
It has been roughly six months since President Donald Trump trampled former Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democrats on Election Day, and in that time the liberal news media have arrived at some epiphanies as to how and why they got everything so wrong. From Bidens steep mental decline, the origins of COVID, the "unfixable" border to children undergoing sex changes, the liberal media was on the incorrect side of all of it. Suddenly, many are claiming to have seen the light. Or more precisely, to see that what they gaslit the rest of us about for the last few years was as true as it was obvious.DAVID MARCUS: JOE BIDEN IN A WHEELCHAIR? AT LEAST DEMOCRATS WOULD HAVE BEEN HONESTNormal, everyday Americans from coast to coast knew the truth about these matters long before the medias recent revelations. Now, we're shaking our heads and wondering what on Earth took the news media so long?Take Bidens clear and obvious unfitness for office. Conservatives not only noticed it years ago, we spoke, wrote and warned about it. But this week video re-emerged of CNNs media guru Brian Stelter reacting last summer to the administrations claim that old man Biden was fine, just a victim of "cheap fakes," which we were given to understand were accurate videos, but still somehow disinformation."Let me explain," Stelter said, as if defining a long-standing media term of art that had not just been invented by a mendacious White House communications team. "Cheap fakes are a little bit simpler, theyre cheap, theyre distorted, out-of-context videos, chopped up certain ways, constructed in certain ways, thats what were seeing."That sound you are straining to hear is George Orwell doing a golf clap. And who can forget "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough insisting, weeks before Biden would be forced to drop out, that, "This version of Biden, intellectually, analytically, is the best Biden ever," and "Eff you if you can't handle the truth."The rest of us had watched for years as this version of Biden shook hands with the air, wandered aimlessly off stages, mumbled unintelligibly and declined to hold press briefings or cabinet meetings. Now that Trump is back in office, the media is rushing to explain that they were lied to, or that they "missed the story." CNN's Jake Tapper and reporter Alex Thompson have a new book out about just how bad it was behind the scenes. But if we knew, how could they not have known?Similarly, we see a laundry list of "now can suddenly be told" stories about COVID. Turns out the Chinese virus did start in a lab, masks never worked, and that social distancing stuff? That was just kinda made up. God help you if you said any of those things three years ago.Liberal news outlets with age-old reputations in tatters are now running articles about all of these lies, and more, as if nobody could have known at the time. Yet, millions of Americans did, and were attacked for saying it.On the border, not only have the liberal media had to confess that Biden could have shut it down all along, the very real problems with untrammeled illegal immigration can no longer be ignored.Even in England, Prime Minister Keir Starmer has admitted that things have gotten out of hand with what he called a "failed experiment" with open borders. Now, he says, immigrants must learn English and assimilate. Who knew? Well, everyone with the ability to think critically. Finally, and most incredibly obviously, is the liberal media realizing what Monty Python realized in the early 1970s, that men cannot become women or have babies, as John Cleeses character put it, "I'm not oppressing you, Stan! You haven't got a womb! Where's the fetus going to gestate? You going to keep it in a box?"Somehow, 30-40 years later, everyone, and I mean everyone, in liberal media took it as gospel that if a man says hes a woman he is a woman and that he has a right to play womens sports, in what seemed like minutes, thousands of years of human understanding was tossed on its head. And not treating confused children with life-altering drugs or even surgery was somehow "transphobic."CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONBut again, actual people on the ground never really believed this. They saw the pictures of swimmer Lea Thomas towering over his female competition, they heard from brave athletes like Riley Gaines about how deeply unfair and frankly, humiliating it is to be defeated by a man in your own sport. And they knew children are not equipped to make decisions that will leave them sterile and even maimed for the rest of their lives. At least the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom finally got around to admitting what everyone should know: A woman is someone born biologically female, and not a male who pretends he is female. The question that nobody can answer except for liberal journalists themselves is whether they actually believed this procession of lies, even when almost everyone else doubted it, or whether they knew they were lies but peddled them anyway, at the cost of their own dwindling credibility.Put another way, are they liars or just dumb? And make no mistake, there is a plethora of evidence for the latter. The liberal media thinks it can earn back the trust of the American people with these Johnny-Come-Lately apologies and admissions over things we all knew all along. They can't fool us anymore, but it looks like they can still fool themselves.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM DAVID MARCUS

Dems condemn Trump's jet deal, call $400M gift 'unconstitutional'
President Donald Trump's decision to accept a $400 million jet from the Qatari royal family has cast a shadow over his trip to the Middle East this week as Democrats have ridiculed the gift as "unconstitutional.""Trump is literally trying to fly around on a plane from a foreign government while serving as president. Thats a violation of the Constitution. The Emoluments Clause wasnt a suggestion. Its the LAW," Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, said Monday morning. The Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution states that no elected official should accept a gift from a foreign country without consent from Congress. Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y., penned a letter to the Government Accountability Office on Sunday, formally calling for an ethics investigation into the gift as a violation of the clause."I don't know who needs to hear this, but NO, Donald Trump cannot accept a $400 million flying palace from the royal family of Qatar. Not only is this farcically corrupt, it is blatantly unconstitutional. Congress must not allow this over-the-top kleptocracy to proceed," Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., said on Sunday as the news broke.TRUMP CLARIFIES OWNERSHIP OF AIRCRAFT IN DEFENSE OF QATAR'S GIFTWhen asked by Fox News Digital if Trump should accept the $400 million Qatari jet, Democratic senators were unanimous in their condemnation, calling the deal "smelly" and "risky" to national security.TRUMP SIGNS AGREEMENTS WITH QATAR ON DEFENSE AND BOEING PURCHASES"We shouldn't do it," Sen. Peter Welch, D-Vt., said, adding that, "We can build our own planes for security."Even if the Boeing plane was built in the United States, accepting the Qatari jet is "risky," according to Welch."It's smelly enough that he should come to Congress. It looks and feels an awful lot like an emolument, and he and his library will end up getting a personal benefit out of it," Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., told Fox News Digital when asked if Trump's deal needed congressional approval.Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., piled on the Trump criticism in a series of social media posts and even delivered a speech on the Senate floor, arguing Trump is "willing to sell out our nation's security in exchange for billions in bribes, including a free luxury plane.""American foreign policy should never be for sale. With news that Qatar is gifting a $400 million plane to Trump, the White Houses corruption is becoming a bigger and bigger threat to our national security," Murphy said in a social media post. However, the Trump administration has continued to defend Qatar's gift to the United States, as White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed it was not "Trump's plane," but it was donated to the U.S. Air Force. On Wednesday morning, Trump signed a series of agreements with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha, Qatar, which included a Qatari purchasing agreement on 160 American Boeing planes, defense agreements and a declaration of cooperation between the countries.Trump defended his decision to accept the Qatari jet on Tuesday, saying it would be "stupid" not to and emphasizing that he accepted it on behalf of the U.S. government, not himself."The Boeing 747 is being given to the United States Air Force/Department of Defense, NOT TO ME! It is a gift from a Nation, Qatar, that we have successfully defended for many years. It will be used by our Government as a temporary Air Force One, until such time as our new Boeings, which are very late on delivery, arrive. Why should our military, and therefore our taxpayers, be forced to pay hundreds of millions of Dollars when they can get it for FREE from a country that wants to reward us for a job well done," Trump said on Truth Social on Tuesday following his remarks to reporters."This big savings will be spent, instead, to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! Only a FOOL would not accept this gift on behalf of our Country. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump added.

President Trump himself nearly lost his life because of it. Now, after reforming the Secret Service and providing it with the resources it needs to do its job, we are seeing an historic surge in applications. Americans naturally want to protect and serve. We simply have to let them."WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A SECRET SERVICE AGENT?
