Public Comments Open Until March 9th, 2024The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection invites you to have your say on the upcoming Wharton State Forest Vehicle Use Map. They are seeking your valuable feedback online, and the window for your comments is 45 days, concluding on Saturday, March 9.Unveiled on January 24, 2024 this proposed map could be a game-changer. It clearly marks out the approved paths for vehicles that are street-legal, with a goal of ensuring that we keep our culturally and environmentally sensitive spots safe and undisturbed. The maps carefully chosen routes also mean better maintenance from the State Park Service.People visit Wharton for many different reasons, among them hiking, canoeing, camping, enjoying nature, fishing, hunting, horseback riding and driving along the forests many miles of sand routes,said Commissioner Shawn. M LaTourette.A Visiting Vehicle Use Map with clearly defined driving routes and recreational access opportunities is long overdue.
