Just one hot dog a day could raise disease risk, study suggests, but some cite caveats
A new meta-analysis from the University of Washington suggests that no amount of processed food is safe to consume.Researchers analyzed 77 different studies to gauge the link between certain amounts of these foods and common chronic diseases."Habitual consumption of even small amounts of processed meat, sugary drinks and trans fatty acids is linked to increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, ischemic heart disease and colorectal cancer," lead study author Demewoz Haile, a research scientist at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, told Fox News Digital.HOMEMADE VS. PROCESSED FOODS: STUDY CHALLENGES WHAT WE THINK IS HEALTHIER"There is no safe level of habitual consumption of these food groups, so they should not be included in our daily diet," he stated. For processed meats in particular, the researchers concluded that eating as little as 0.6 to 57 grams per day was linked to an 11% greater likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes.Consuming between 0.78 and 55 grams per day was associated with a 7% increase in colorectal cancer risk, the study found.(One hot dog, which is made up of almost entirely processed meat, is approximately 50 grams.)The researchers also analyzed the impact of sugar-sweetened beverages, finding that drinking between 1.5 and 390 grams per day could raise type 2 diabetes risk by 8%.DIABETES RISK LINKED TO THESE ULTRAPROCESSED FOOD COMBINATIONSConsuming between 0 and 365 grams of the beverages could increase the risk of ischemic heart disease the most common type of heart disease and a leading cause of death by 2%, the study found.Trans fatty acids were also analyzed in the study. When the unsaturated fats made up anywhere from 0.25% to 2.56% of daily energy intake, they were linked to a 3% greater risk of ischemic heart disease.(Some examples of trans fats include crackers, cookies, baked goods, frozen pizza, coffee creamer, refrigerated dough products, and vegetable shortenings and some stick margarines, according to WebMD. Some fast foods also contain it.)The findings were published in the journal Nature Medicine on June 30.Previous studies have established the link between processed foods and chronic disease, Haile acknowledged."However, our study evaluated the shape of the relationship with the most recent studies, using a more advanced analytical method, and objectively assessed the strength of the evidence," he noted.WHAT YOUR BLOOD QUIETLY REVEALS ABOUT YOUR EATING HABITS"Our analysis showed that the strongest association is observed at lower exposure levels equivalent to a serving or less, which implies that consuming these food items on a regular basis at any amount increases the risk of adverse health outcomes."While the researchers recognized that diet is a "personal choice" and that some may be limited in food choices, they recommend limiting or eliminating consumption of processed foods."Our findings support what is widely recommended, including by the WHO and CDC: Avoid or reduce to the minimum possible level the consumption of processed meats, sugary drinks and artificial trans fats," Haile told Fox News Digital."Individuals who regularly consume these foods, even in small amounts, should be aware of the increased risk of chronic diseases."The major limitations of this study are associated with dietary intake assessment, Haile acknowledged."Almost all of the included studies used food frequency questionnaires to assess intake, which can introduce measurement errors, primarily due to difficulties experienced by respondents in recalling long-term intake," he told Fox News Digital.Several studies included in the analysis only looked at consumption at the start of the study, Haile noted "which might not accurately reflect the future dietary habits of the study participants."Also, the study only looked at a limited set of health outcomes for each dietary risk factor."Consequently, our study may underestimate the total health loss associated with these foods," Haile said."We also observed substantial variation across existing literature, which implies that high-quality research is still needed to strengthen the evidence and reduce uncertainty."Dr. Nick Norwitz, M.D., PhD, a Harvard-educated clinical researcher and metabolic health educator, acknowledged that the study shows a "relatively consistent association" between higher processed meat intake and worse health outcomes, but pointed out some caveats."These are associations not necessarily causal relationships," Norwitz, who was not involved in the study, told Fox News Digital.Additionally, as the researchers themselves acknowledged, the quality of the evidence was graded as "weak," Norwitz pointed out."While these large studies have certain strengths, one key weakness is that they lump together many different foods within a single category," the researcher went on. "There are various ways to process meats, and not all will have the same biological consequences."CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTERWhile its "certainly feasible" that processed meat can contribute to poor health outcomes, Norwitz said that more research is needed to confirm the meta-analysis claims."At the end of the day, the office donut or bottle of soda is almost certainly doing more metabolic damage than a slice of deli turkey," he added.A spokesperson from the American Association of Meat Processors (AAMP) sent the below statement to Fox News Digital regarding the study."We have not read the [full] report, but the abstract in the paper itself states that the assertions reflect weak relationships or inconsistent input evidence and that more research is necessary. We would like to know how the paper defined processed meat, or if the researchers weighed any supposed risks against the proven benefits of nutrients and protein found in meat."For more Health articles, visitwww.foxnews.com/healthIn the study, the researchers defined processed meat as "any meat preserved by smoking, curing, salting or the addition of chemical preservatives."Fox News Digital also reached out to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for comment.

Lee Greenwood says patriotic anthem 'God Bless the USA' is untouchable even in a woke era
Lee Greenwood reflected on why he believes his patriotic anthem "God Bless the USA." has stood the test of time. The 82-year-old country singer released his signature song "God Bless the USA, which is also known as "Proud to Be an American," in 1984. Since then, the song's hit status has endured, with its popularity surging in both times of national unity and tragedy.During a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Greenwood shared his thoughts on the legacy of "God Bless the USA" and why it resonates from "generation to generation to generation.""I can't tell you how many kids, like a 6-, 7-year-old will send me a video, or their parents will send a video of them standing there waving a little flag and going, Proud to be an American,' you know, in their little tiny voice. That's where patriotism starts," he said."And I'm pretty sure that because of how powerful God Bless the USA has been since its release, over 40 years, and ingrained now into society," Greenwood continued. "And a lot of people who are woke about 'Oh, you can't sing the national anthem' or 'I'm going to disrespect the flag' you can't disrespect God Bless the USA. It talks about pride and patriotism."TRUMP IS A WARRIOR: LEE GREENWOOD REFLECTS ON RNC PERFORMANCE OF GOD BLESS THE USA IN MILWAUKEE"And so I think that's why it's survived," he added. "And so many kids then will grow up, they're in their 20s and 30s, and they have kids and Hey, look, this is what I did when I was a kid. Listen to this song."Greenwood launched his music career in 1962 and signed with the Nashville division of the label MCA Records in 1981. The Grammy Award winner wrote and recorded "God Bless the USA" in 1983. The song was included on Greenwood's third studio album, "You've Got a Good Love Comin,'" which was released in May 1984.WATCH: Lee Greenwood explains why his song 'God Bless the USA' inspires patriotism throughout generationsAfter "God Bless the USA" was released as a single, it reached the seventh spot on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. The song received wider recognition when it was featured in a video that played at the 1984 Republican National Convention with President Ronald Reagan and first lady Nancy Reagan in attendance.Greenwood later performed the song at campaign rallies for Reagan when he was running for his second term and during the 1988 Republican National Convention.Since then, Greenwood has given performances of "God Bless the USA" during three presidential inaugural celebrations. The California native performed the song on the eve of President George H.W. Bush's inauguration in 1989. He also sang "God Bless the USA" at President Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" event marking his 2017 presidential inauguration. In January, Greenwood performed the song when Trump was sworn in for the second time in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol.Trump used Greenwood's patriotic ballad as his intro music during his campaign rallies and at some of his biggest speeches, including the emotional moment he walked into the 2024 Republican National Convention following the assassination attempt against him last July. The song has also regained popularity during times of national strife or tragedy, including during the Gulf War and in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. "God Bless the USA" was certified platinum by the RIAA in 2015.While speaking with Fox News Digital, Greenwood admitted that he could never have imagined the impact that "God Bless the USA" would have over the years when he was first writing it."That would have been ludicrous because first of all, I never had an idea we were going to release it as a single," he said. "I wrote that song while I was on tour in my bus. I was doing 300 days a year the first two or three years that I signed with MCA in Nashville."Greenwood continued, "And it was just a song I wrote one night because I've been thinking about it for a while. And my producer and I were talking about what album to put it on. And we had, I think, a fourth or fifth album for MCA already. Six number one songs."ON MEMORIAL DAY, LEE GREENWOOD REMEMBERS AMERICA'S HEROES: NEVER TAKE FREEDOM FOR GRANTEDThe country singer recalled that he and his producer traveled to Los Angeles where they played his album "You've Got a Good Love Comin'" for music mogul Irving Azoff, then the head of MCA Records. Greenwood told Fox News Digital that Azoff made the choice to include "God Bless the USA" on the album and release the track as a single."If he'd have asked me and I'd have answered that question because my producer and I looked at each other and said, 'I don't think I'll make the choice,'" Greenwood remembered. "I would have said, 'You've Got a Good Love Comin',' which is the name of the album. And I had $25,000 invested in a London train station [music] video [for Youve Got a Good Love Comin']. It's all about the dollars and cents for me at that point.""But he's the one that said, and I guess he was politically connected, and he just said, 'I think that's the song will do our country well,'" he recalled of Azoff. "It was a leap of faith. I mean, [the] radio may not have played it because it wasn't country."During a November 2024 interview with Fox News Digital, Greenwood shared that he was a drum major in his high school's marching band and learned to appreciate his country from that early age."I think thats where patriotism starts," he said. "The appreciation for the flag, what it means. And then later on you learn where the sacrifices come from the United States military and how many people have given their lives to keep the flag flying. Theres a matter of pride there. Every time I hear the song, I relate to that. Every time I see a color guard who marches out."LEE GREENWOOD ON AMERICA'S VETERANS AND PRIDE IN OUR COUNTRY: I HAVE GREAT FAITHWhile speaking with Fox News Digital in May 2024, Greenwood opened up about what being a citizen of the United States means to him."As I wrote [in God Bless the USA], I'm proud to be an American," he said.WATCH: Lee Greenwood reflected on the meaning of America's milestone birthday next yearThe musician added that when people say, "'Well, you know, I'm an Italian American. I'm proud of my heritage.' Or, Im African American. I'm proud of my heritage.' Wait we're all Americans. And so it really gives me honor to say that I'm proud to be an American."Greenwood noted that "God Bless the USA" is frequently played at naturalization ceremonies for new U.S. citizens."When they hear my song God Bless the USA, they understand what it means to be an American," he said. "And that's what it means to me as well."LIKE WHAT YOURE READING? Hardware stores are the nuts and bolts of American freedom this July 4th
In 1997, in the early, optimistic, post-Soviet days, I visited Odesa, Ukraine, to lead discussions about democratic governance systems for the regions public officials. That beautiful, historic city on the Black Sea, once a polyglot center of commerce now horrifically targeted by Russian bombs was just awakening from socialism.Private hotels and restaurants had opened, even as Soviet-era "sanitoria" government-owned resorts for labor unions continued to operate. But the green shoots of private ownership had not yet reached its housing market such as its long blocks of "Khruschevka" concrete slab, three-to-five-story, 1950s-era apartment blocks, named for the former Soviet premier who once promised to "bury" the U.S. Public housing was the rule, not the exception, under socialism. That helped explain the absence of a type of business I noticed was missing on the streets of the city made famous by Sergei Eisensteins film, "SS Potemkin:" pe They are ubiquitous in the U.S., of course, from the Home Depot and Lowes giants to the hundreds of small-town "True Value" affiliates. Their absence during the hangover from the socialism period led me to realize that the outlets for everything from lumber to wall plaster to bathroom grout hold a significance that goes beyond their thousands of inventory items. They say much about America from private homeownership to personal agency and required responsibility that go along with it. In other words, freedom.SOCIALIST MAYORAL CANDIDATE ZOHRAN MAMDANI UNDER FIRE FOR PLAN TO TAX 'RICHER AND WHITER NEIGHBORHOODS'In contrast to the dreams of city planners during the Depression, public housing a la Moscow, literally, to which early government housing advocates looked as a model never took root in the U.S. Instead, homeownership increased from 44% in 1930 to 65% today. We tend to think of ownership in terms of the extent to which its affordable but not to pay enough attention to what it implies about the American way of life and, yes, the freedom we celebrate on July 4.Thats where hardware stores come in. Homeowners must rely, first and foremost, on themselves to maintain their properties, their key source of personal wealth. Yes, we can now call on Angies List to find contractors and handy-persons but its our responsibility to notice the leaks that can destroy a ceiling, to take care that pipes dont freeze during a cold snap, to make sure gutters and downspouts are clear so roofs and clapboard siding dont rot. We cant call the propertys landlord we are that person.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONThe stakes are high. Pew Research reports that among "households that own their primary residence home equity accounted for a median of 45% of their net worth in 2021." In other words, almost half our personal wealth is tied up in a home we own. Surprisingly, it matters the most to some minority households. Per Pew, "Home equity is especially important for Black and Hispanic homeowners. In 2021, they derived 63% and 66% of their net worth from home equity, respectively, at the median."ERIC ADAMS BACKS 50 CENT, SAYS DEM SOCIALISTS ECONOMICS DESERVE 'ONE-WAY TICKET TO FANTASYLAND'Not surprisingly, then, 90% of hardware giant Home Depot customers are DIYers (do-it-yourselfers), though professional contracts are also a key part of their revenue stream. Of course, its typically a homeowner who retains that professional contractor who goes to Home Depot for flooring and kitchen cabinets.Software may be the future but hardware remains big business in America. Home Depots 2,300 outlets brought in $159 billion in 2024. Competitor big box chain Lowes' 1,700 stores brought in $83 billion. Some 1,700 smaller, local hardware stores use the True Value brand logo. In each of these, every day, some homeowner is coming in for the right size dry wall or asking for advice, something Home Depot long ago realized drew in customers.Theres a Home Depot in Odessa, Texas but not in Odesa, Ukraine. There is good news about the latter, though. Since the time of my visit there, the Ukraine-owned "hypermarket" home improvement chain Epicentre started with one store in Kyiv in 1996, and in 2009 opened locations in Odesa. Theres now a private market for those Khrushchev-era apartments an Odesa real estate website lists one for $21,000.One can only hope that, to go along with homeownership and hardware stores, Odesa residents will be able to be secure that they will not have to continue to do repairs from bomb damage. That combination homeownership, hardware implies the sort of freedom Americans too often take for granted on July 4.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM HOWARD HUSOCK

This July 4th, heres how my family earned the right to be called Americans legally
I was born in India but made in America. My father, a proud Indian naval officer, gave up everything his career, comfort and country for a chance at the American Dream. He brought my mother, my brother and me to the United States with just $80 and a belief in the American Dream. My father gave up everything not to receive assistance or special treatment, but to pursue a future based on freedom and merit. He scrubbed toilets, worked night shifts and shared a home with my grandparents and relatives. My father never complained or requested handouts. He simply sought the opportunity to build a future through hard work and dignity. My family followed the legal process. We filed paperwork, paid the required fees, attended government interviews, passed the citizenship exam and, ultimately, swore an oath of loyalty to the United States of America. Thats the American way: not cutting the line or breaking the law but earning your place through sacrifice and assimilation.OBAMA SEEMS TO SWIPE AT TRUMP IMMIGRATION CRACKDOWN, SAYING MIGRANTS 'TREATED AS ENEMIES'Today, however, the American Dream is being redefined and undermined by those who treat it as an entitlement rather than an achievement. The modern Democratic Party has turned legal immigration into a punchline, offering citizenship to those who circumvent the law. By blurring the line between legal and illegal, they betray the ideals they claim to uphold. Not all immigrants are the same. Consider Albert Einstein, who fled Nazi persecution and changed the course of science. Elon Musk, who left South Africa, worked his way through school and helped revolutionize technology and space. Madeleine Albright, who escaped communist tyranny and became the first female United States Secretary of State. Each of these individuals earned their place in America through allegiance, contribution and sacrifice.SEN CHUCK GRASSLEY: HOW SENATE REPUBLICANS ARE RESTORING RULE OF LAW AND SECURING BORDER FOR YEARS TO COMEContrast their legacy with that of Victor Martnez Hernndez, who murdered Rachel Morin after multiple illegal entries into the country. Or Sebastian Zapeta Calil, who was accused of setting a woman on fire in a New York subway. Or Lina Maria Orovio Hernandez, who was accused of stealing more than $400,000 in taxpayer-funded benefits and illegally voting in the 2024 election. These are not the same stories, and the law must reflect that reality.Millions of legal immigrants, like my family, followed the rules. We waited, worked and learned English. We assimilated. In contrast, under Democrats' broken border policies, millions entered the United States unlawfully without documentation, vetting or any intention of becoming Americans in the fullest sense. The threat is greater than most admit. Were facing an invasion of unvetted individuals many of them fighting-aged men from China, Iran and violent regions of the Middle East. Human traffickers and cartels are ransoming, enslaving and assaulting women and children who trusted them to reach the U.S.Democrats' open-border policies have fueled this black market of terror. This isnt just a failure its a national security crisis and a humanitarian disaster. And to those who say, "Theyre just here to work" motives dont excuse breaking the law.THE SUPREME COURT HAS A MAJOR OPPORTUNITY TO HELP FIX ILLEGAL IMMIGRATIONDesiring a better life is no excuse to break the law. Every illegal entry disregards those who pursued citizenship the right way. Rewarding such behavior through sanctuary status, government benefits or expedited citizenship sends a dangerous and deeply unjust message: that laws are optional, and that effort is irrelevant.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONThe consequences are real. Working-class Americans bear the cost overcrowded hospitals and schools, higher housing prices and declining safety. This isnt compassion; its injustice. The rhetoric of "equity" has been weaponized to build a new caste system where legal immigrants and law-abiding citizens are pushed aside, while lawbreakers are elevated and subsidized. This isnt fairness. Its a grab for power.I take pride in my Indian heritage but Im even prouder to be an American. Citizenship isnt just a status; its a sacred commitment to defend the Constitution, uphold the law, and give more than you take. It means standing in line, abiding by the rules, and embracing both the duties and blessings of this country.MORNING GLORY: ABOUT THOSE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS IN THE UNITED STATESBecause I embraced America, it embraced me. I became a lawyer, media commentator, served in national security and the Ohio Governors Office, and became Ohios first female sports agent all thanks to a legal, merit-based system now under siege.Legal immigrants across America are rejecting the lefts false promises. In 2016, President Donald Trump won 36% of the legal immigrant vote. By 2024, it rose to 47%. Even CNN cant spin it. Why? Because were tired of being ignored, disrespected, and erased. We wont stay silent as our story is co-opted.This Independence Day, remember freedom isnt free and neither is citizenship. Both must be earned. To every legal immigrant who followed the law: this country sees you, values you, and needs you. Youre not a footnote in Americas story. Youre its backbone. We wont let that legacy be stolen.

New Cold War?: US faces long-term battle to contain Iran after Trump's strike on their nuclear facilities
After Trump's strategic strike on Iran's nuclear facilities,Twelve days of air raids, missile exchanges, and brinksmanship between Israel and Iran have ended in a precarious ceasefire. Brokered by the United States, the truce has temporarily halted a conflict that threatened to spiral into a regional war involving U.S. forces, energy markets, and global nonproliferation norms. Now that the dust has settled, the critical question emerges: What was the true purpose of Americas decision to strike Irans nuclear infrastructure? And what should our strategic posture be moving forward? The True Motive Behind the StrikePresident Trump claimed the strikes were necessary because Iran was "weeks away" from producing a nuclear weapon. In a televised address, he said Iran could complete a bomb in "acoupleof weeks" if it chose to. Press Secretary KarolineLeavittechoed the urgency: "Iran could produce [a nuclear weapon] in just weeks."TRUMP BROKERS IRAN CEASEFIRE AS EXPERTS SAY REGIMES ARSENAL IS SHATTERED BUT THREAT REMAINSYet Director of National Intelligence TulsiGabbardtestified in March 2025 that Iran was not building a nuclear weapon and had not resumed warhead development, despite its stockpile of enriched uranium. After Trump publicly contradicted her"She's wrong," he saidGabbardlater amended her position to reflect the administration's concern, noting that Iran could produce a weapon "within weeks to months, if they decide to finalize the assembly."In essence, Iran had crossed the nuclear thresholdpossessing enough highly enriched uranium to build a bombbut hadnt done so. The strike, therefore, wasnt meant to neutralize an imminent weapon but to deny Iran near-term build options. It was a pre-emptive move, based on strategy, not panic. That calculation has come under renewed scrutiny. A leaked Defense Intelligence Agency memo suggested the U.S. strikes may have only "briefly delayed" Irans nuclear programcontradicting Trumps claim that it had been "obliterated." But the CIA, in a statement from Director JohnRatcliffe, countered that intelligence shows several key nuclear facilities were destroyed and would take years to rebuild. This jaw-dropping conclusion validates Americas strategic choice and underscored that the operation dealt a severe, long-term blow to Irans breakout potential. No path to peaceonly a Cold WarDespite chatter about diplomacy, a formal peace between Israel and Iran remains far-fetched. Since 1979, Tehran has refused to recognize Israel's existence. Its regime views Israel as illegitimate and calls for its destruction. Israel, in turn, sees Iran as an existential threat, fueled by nuclear ambition and a global network of proxies. These dynamics remain unchanged. During the NATO summit, PresidentTrumppublicly rebuked Israels internal politicscriticizing Prime Minister Netanyahus corruption trial as a "witch hunt," hinting at possible U.S. reconsideration of military support. This public intrusion into Israeli domestic affairs highlights how deeply U.S. influence now extends beyond the battlefield.Given these entrenched positions, the most likely outcome is not reconciliation but a prolonged standoffakin to a modern Cold War. Proxy skirmishes, cyberattacks, and covert operations are likely to define the coming years. Stability will rest on deterrence, not diplomatic optimism. The limits of peace talksInternational actorsespecially the UN and EUare expected to push for new peace talks and arms-control frameworks. Such diplomacy is laudable, but expectations must be tempered.Iran has already indicated it will not rejoin IAEA inspections without substantial concessions. Israel insists on striking preemptively if it detects renewed threats. The most we can realistically hope for are temporary confidence-building measuresenrichment caps, missile constraints, or localized de-escalation. These are fragile progressionsnot true peace treaties.President Trump has announced that U.S. officials will meet with their Iranian counterparts "nextweek" to discuss nuclear concerns and regional stability. While the announcement signals a shift toward engagement, the administrations ongoing tensions with the intelligence communitycombined with Irans entrenched ideological stancecast doubt on the prospects for any enduring diplomatic breakthrough.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONA realistic path forwardThe best strategic objective now is not peace, but stability. That means a policy of managed containment:ConclusionContrary to initial claims, President Trumps strike was not about ending an immediate nuclear threat but about denying Iran any rapid pathway to one. The CIAs confirmation that Irans key nuclear sites were destroyed and will take years to rebuild supports this strategy.Peace with Iran remains a far-off dream. Instead, America must brace for a prolonged, asymmetric contestdriven by proxy struggles, cyber tensions, and ideological rivalries. The ceasefire may hold, but the war is not over.Real victory lies not in treaties or summits, but in steady deterrence, disciplined diplomacy, and clear-eyed strategic patience.

The Left is celebrating July 4 with protests while the Right sees a patriotic revival
As President Donald Trump is preparing for Independence Day celebrations, some Democrats will be taking to the streets to protest on Americas birthday as polls indicate a decreased sense of patriotism from those on the Left.Democrats across the country are organizing protests and boycotts on the 4th of July to make their voices heard that they do not agree with the direction the country is heading.A new Fox News poll showed that only 36% of Democrats say they are proud of the United States today, compared to 85% of Republicans expressing pride in their country. Now, in what some are calling the "No Kings 2.0" protests, Democrats are banding together in several states to lay out their grievances. The Womens March, whose mission is to "transform everyday women into feminists," is calling on protesters to join their "Free America Weekend."TRUMP ANNOUNCES HE WILL KICK OFF INDEPENDENCE DAY WEEKEND WITH 'VERY SPECIAL' PATRIOTIC EVENT"Together, we must Free America from the grip of greedy billionaires who rig the system for themselves," the website states. "Lets stop the rich and powerful from gambling our future away. Free America from poverty and end the rigged system where the wealthy live large while the middle class foots the bill. Everyone should be able to afford food, rent, health care, and a decent life. Free America from arbitrary firings and a flood of unlawful orders. No one should be subjected to authoritarians overwhelming us with policies designed to spread fear and control.""Free America from the grip of hate and the politics of fear," the website statement continues. "Everyone deserves to live safely, love who they love, and be treated with respect. Free America nowto protect our freedoms before theyre gone. We need fair elections, the right to vote and protest, and real justice for all."John Schwarz, founder of The People's Union USA, released a video on Instagram calling for a boycott during the month of July to protest ICE arrests, among other policies, of the Trump administration."This is the most important boycott of the year. Its not about politics, its about principle," he said, instructing Americans to refrain from attending parades and fireworks shows. "Its about walking away from the illusion theyve built and reclaiming what it actually means to be free."Schwarz said "there is no independence to celebrate right now," arguing the Constitution is being "trampled on." The People's Union USA founder has said the boycott must happen because people love America "too much to lie anymore.""Dont wave a flag for a country that no longer waves it for you," he continued. "The fourth of July is supposed to be a celebration of freedom, but what freedom are we actually talking about? The right to be watched? The right to be taxed, lied to, left behind, the right to vote between two corporate puppets? The right to work 60 hours a week and still struggle to pay rent, while billionaires dodge taxes?"The anticipated July 4 protests mark a contrast from the presidents "America 250" initiative, which began on Memorial Day and counts down to the celebration of Americas 250th birthday on July 4, 2026."Task Force 250 invites citizens to have a renewed love of American history, experience the beauty of our country, and ignite a spirit of adventure and innovation that will raise our nation to new heights over the next 250 years," the website states.Ambassador Monica Crowley, who is chief of Protocol in the Trump administration, opened up about the year-long celebration for "the greatest nation the world has ever known" on FOX Business "Kudlow.""The objective of America 250 is to bring the country together again," she said. "It's to unite America based on patriotism, shared values, and this renewed sense of pride in our country. That is something that President Trump has done his entire career, but certainly since he has been president over the last 10 years and this is something, a real point of celebration over the next year as we bring this party to all Americans, both here and abroad."President Trump kicked off this years Independence Day celebration with a visit to Iowa Thursday night.

Trump pitches plan allowing farmers to vouch for illegal immigrant workers facing deportation
The Trump administration plans to implement a process whereby farmers in Iowa can vouch for hard-working, law-abiding migrant farmworkers who may be facing deportation, so that they can remain in the U.S.The proposed process was shared by President Donald Trump during an event at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on Thursday night, kicking off a year of patriotic celebrations meant to honor the nation's 250th birthday. Trump said the new plan will take place in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security and that legislation for the measure is currently being drafted, while speaking Thursday evening from Iowa."You know, they've had people working for them for years. And we're going to do something we're going to sort of put the farmers in charge," Trump told the crowd of people in attendance. "If a farmer has been with one of these people that worked so hard they bend over all day, we don't have too many people that can do that, but they work very hard, and they know him very well, and some of the farmers are literally, you know, they cry when they see this happen if a farmer is willing to vouch for these people, in some way, Kristie, I think we're going to have to just say that's going to be good, right?"TRUMP 'WORKING ON' DEPORTATION EXEMPTIONS FOR ILLEGAL FARM AND HOSPITALITY WORKERS"We don't want to do [border security] where we take all of the workers off the farms," Trump added. "We want the farms to do great."According to the Office of the United States Trade Representative, Iowa is the nation's second-largest agricultural exporting state. While announcing the new plan, Trump cited cases he had heard of when migrants who have worked on farms for 15 years "get thrown out pretty viciously."DAVID MARCUS: AMERICANS GET IT. TRUMP'S MOVES TO CLEAN UP BIDEN'S OPEN BORDER CHAOS WILL BE MESSY"We can't do that," Trump added. "We got to work with the farmers and people that have hotels and leisure properties."Earlier this week, when Trump previously hinted at the new immigration exemption for farmers, he also suggested the move could be implemented for workers in the hospitality industry, as well. While sharing the new immigration proposal with the crowd at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on Thursday night, Trump spoke to potential criticisms of the move by "serious radical-right people" within the GOP, asking the crowd rhetorically if they think these folks "will understand."After the president first brought up the proposal earlier this week, critics have already started sounding off."So, if Im to understand this correctly, we should look the other way regarding illegal immigration as long as its in the construction, hotel, or restaurant industries? This is far beyond disappointing, its infuriating," California Republican state Sen. Melissa Melendez wrote on X.The president noted Thursday evening that the move will put farmers "in charge" and ultimately the responsibility for any problems that arise will fall to their feet. "If the farmers don't do a good job, we'll throw them the hell out of the country. We'll let the guys we'll let the illegals stay, and we'll throw the farmers the hell out," Trump said. "Okay, get ready, farmer, I'm telling you."

Rip current beach rescues show swimmers face deadly risks: what to know to stay safe
As hundreds of people on the East Coast were rescued from rip currents in the past week, one expert shared tips on how to stay safe when heading to the beach over the 4th of July weekend.Since Sunday, over 100 people had to be rescued from beaches located along the Jersey Shore, mainly due to rip currents according to the Asbury Park Press. In Wilmington, North Carolina, 10 people had to be rescued as a result of rip currents on Saturday, according to WAVY.Belmar, New Jersey lifeguard Harry Harsin said Sunday was one of the busiest days he's seen on the job."The water wasn't very cooperative," Harsin said. "And with the heat and the slow start to summer, everyone wanted to come down to the beach. We were mobbed. It was an insane day."WATER SAFETY TIPS FROM EXPERTS FOR FAMILIES AND CAREGIVERS AS DROWNING DEATHS INCREASEAccording to the United States Lifesaving Association, over 100 deaths occur every year stemming from rip currents, making it a water safety hazard for beachgoers. Tens of thousands of people are rescued from rip currents annually, according to NOAA.Capt. Geoff Fahringer, a former Collier County Sheriffs Office dive team captain and licensed U.S. Coast Guard boating captain told Fox News Digital it's critical for beachgoers to be "Situationally aware" whenever they're in the water."But another thing that comes into the situationally aware attitude, is [to] study the current, no matter what the current might be when you first get to the beach," Fahringer said. "You get a couple of floats or noodles and you go out in front of your blanket with some friends and you're talking and yacking as you're floating out there. And you realize 15 minutes later, you're 300 yards south of where you started."JULY FOURTH BOATERS WARNED ABOUT DEADLY WATERFRONT DANGER WITH LIFESAVING SUMMER TIPSAs far as rip currents, Fahringer said it's important for people to "learn your beach.""You know, there's certain beaches where very seldom do you ever see a rip current. There's other beaches, especially on the East coast, where the water is more aggressive, where it's pretty common," Fahringer said. "So know your beach, know what it looks like, and be aware if you're almost something out there floating or swimming or something, and you realize, gee, I wasn't really this far out a minute ago, or you start swimming in and you realize you're not getting anywhere."In these situations, Fahringer said it's important not to panic and to "swim 90 degrees to either side slowly, just dog paddle, doesn't matter.""Just get out of that rip current. They're not usually that wide where you can get yourself out of it and then get yourself back in to the shore," he said.

How law enforcement's discovery of rare drug in Suzanne Morphew's body led to her husband's eventual arrest
The investigation into Suzanne Morphew's disappearance appeared to be at a standstill following the dismissal of Barry Morphew's murder charge in 2022. That changed when investigators found a rare chemical compound inside her body, which prosecutors say ties Barry Morphew directly to her death.Barry Morphew was arrested near Phoenix, Arizona on June 20 following a grand jury indictment for allegedly killing his wife, 49-year-old Suzanne Morphew, a mother of two, who vanished on Mother's Day in 2020. The Morphews lived near Salida, Colorado. Morphew waived an extradition hearing and is now at the Alamosa County Jail in Colorado.Just months after murder charges against Barry Morphew were dismissed in 2022 due to prosecutorial misconduct, investigators found Suzanne Morphew's body in September 2023 while searching in Saguache County, located in the southwestern part of the state.According to the June 20 grand jury indictment charging Barry Morphew with first-degree-murder after deliberation, many of Suzanne Morphew's bones were found "significantly bleached" when her remains were found in 2023.BARRY MORPHEW TO APPEAR IN COURT AFTER GRAND JURY INDICTMENT CHARGING HIM WITH WIFE'S MURDERWhen an autopsy was performed in 2020, according to prosecutors, a deer tranquilizer called "BAM" was found in her bone marrow, which stands for the chemicals butorphanol, azaperone and medetomidine.Court documents say that Barry Morphew used the "BAM" deer tranquilizer to transport deer on his farm in Indiana.Barry Morphew was the only individual with a prescription for the deer tranquilizer within the area of Colorado he lived in."Ultimately, the prescription records show that when Suzanne Morphew disappeared, only one private citizen living in that entire area of the state had access to BAM: Barry Morphew," the indictment states.FOLLOW THE FOX TRUE CRIME TEAM ON XBarry Morphew's attorney, David Beller, told Fox News Digital that Morphew "maintains his innocence.""Yet again, the government allows their predetermined conclusion to lead their search for evidence," Beller said. "The case has not changed, and the outcome will not either."Colin McCallin, a Colorado-based lawyer and former deputy district attorney for the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office in Colorado, told Fox News Digital the alleged connection between Barry Morphew and the deer tranquilizer makes this case "very strong.""And so now with the discovery of Suzanne Morphew's body and of course the forensic evidence that the autopsy has yielded, we can see that this tranquilizer was indeed found inside Suzanne Morphew's remains," McCallin said. "And when I initially heard that, I was like, okay, well, there could be explanations for that. But then you find out how rare this compound is, this tranquilizer."BARRY MORPHEW EXTRADITED TO COLORADO TO FACE MURDER CHARGES IN WIFE'S 2020 DISAPPEARANCEThe BAM deer tranquilizer, according to McCallin, is a tightly regulated substance used in certain situations - not on humans."It's something that's made by one company. It's a highly regulated controlled substance that's only usually used by veterinarians or parks and wildlife officers," he said. "And then you found out that Barry Morphew is the only person in the region who has this prescription for this tranquilizer. All of a sudden, this looks like a strong case against Barry Morphew."Though an autopsy revealed the presence of BAM in her body in an April 29, 2024 announcement, it would be over a year before Barry Morphew was charged again. McCallin said this could be explained by 12th Judicial District Attorney Anne Kelly being "methodical" in her handling of the case.SIGN UP TO GET THE TRUE CRIME NEWSLETTER"Just because they found the body and they found that tranquilizer, investigators still have a lot of work to do. There's no statute of limitations for murder. They can charge Barry Morphew now. They could charge him five, ten years down line. And I think they wanted to dot their i's and cross their t's and make sure that they were never in a position like the first prosecution," McCallin said.Eric Faddis, a Colorado-based attorney and former prosecutor, told Fox News Digital that the evidence allegedly tying Barry Morphew to the deer tranquilizer is a "game changer.""There are other folks in the region who have access to the drug, but my understanding is they're mostly veterinarians, and people who work in animal sciences. And surely this revelation sort of points directly at Barry Morphew, which is a problem for the defense," Faddis said. While Faddis says the alleged evidence tying Barry Morphew to the deer tranquilizer is an issue for the defense, he said that the prosecutors still face a major challenge.GET REAL-TIME UPDATES AT THE FOX NEWS TRUE CRIME HUB"I think prosecutors absolutely have an uphill battle and any sort of celebration for justice would be premature. I think that, you know, the case is largely circumstantial," Faddis said. "And on top of that, the prosecution has been handcuffed by the court based on their prior prosecutorial misconduct. And so they are not going to be able to call many of the experts who would be beneficial to proving the case. So for all of those reasons this is by no means a slam dunk and, in fact, I think on the balance it's actually going to be very difficult to prove."

Diddy insider Mark Geragos admits 'the only thing' that surprised him about the verdict
Sean "Diddy" Combs was acquitted Wednesday of racketeering and sex trafficking charges following a two-month-long federal trial.Backed by a "dream team" group of defense lawyers, the rapper was facing life in prison if convicted of the three charges, but a jury handed down a guilty verdict on two of the lesser charges of transportation to engage in prostitution. High-profile criminal defense lawyer Mark Geragos a longtime Diddy acquaintance and father of lead attorney, Teny Geragos closely followed the case, and told Fox News Digital that the jury "absolutely" made the right decision.DIDDY'S DREAM TEAM AVOIDED DISASTER WITH ONE KEY MOVE, OJ SIMPSON ATTORNEY SAYSMore than 10 hours into deliberations, the 12-person jury told Judge Arun Subramanian Tuesday that "unpersuadable" opinions prevented them from reaching a unanimous verdict on the biggest charge. Multiple notes were passed to the court from the jurors, with Judge Subramanian ultimately advising continued deliberations until a verdict was reached. While it was unclear at the time what the verdict was, Geragos admitted to feeling somewhat uneasy.DIDDY COULD BE FREE WITHIN A YEAR AFTER PARTIAL ACQUITTAL, ATTORNEY MARK GERAGOS PREDICTS"When I heard they were hung on the RICO and had verdicts on the other four, at first I was not confident until I read the note," Geragos said. "Once I read that note, I figured at that point that they would I thought that they would hang on because, you know, they use the term, unpersuadeable jurors on both sides."That indicated to me that they had split the verdicts on the other four counts. The only thing that surprised me is how quickly they came back on the RICO with a not guilty."The following morning, roughly two hours into deliberations, jurors reached a verdict and found Diddy not guilty of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, with guilty verdicts on both counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.DIDDY BEATS RICO, FOUND NOT GUILTY OF RACKETEERING CONSPIRACY AND SEX TRAFFICKINGThe judge joked that he assumed Diddy did not want to return to MDC Brooklyn, to which the rapper shook his head very exaggeratedly and then looked up with his hands together as if praying. After the judge left, Diddy knelt down with his arms on the chair in front of him. He then got up, faced the gallery and started clapping. The courtroom opened up in applause and cheers for him.WATCH: Criminal defense attorney Mark Geragos weighs in on Diddy trialLIKE WHAT YOURE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSA hearing next week will determine a sentencing date where Diddy could face up to 20 years in prison. The government requested a term between 51-63 months, while Diddy's defense is seeking a 21-27 month term. Still, Geragos guessed both of those numbers were far off base."Frankly, I think this case isn't worth anywhere close to either of those calculations. But even if he gets it, he's a prime candidate for some of the federal programs that are out there actually initiated by this administration and this administration's prior iteration," Geragos said."So there are programs there that he could take advantage of, and I'm sure he will. I mean he's had enormous amount of time I call it a time out and he's used it productively. He's reading, he's thinking, he is talking. I know it doesn't seem like it now, but I think in retrospect, when he's out, it'll be very, very productive."It's unclear when Diddy will be sentenced and what term he faces following the court victory, which Geragos chalked up to the defense team setting the framework before testimony even began.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER"I've always said that cases like this are won or lost in jury selection, and so I think that the jury selection was instrumental," Geragos said. "And then look, I'm biased. I think that my daughter delivered the opening statement and, frankly, from where I sat, and I watched it, I don't think the prosecution ever recovered from that opening statement. There are a lot of studies that say jurors make up their minds 90% of the time after the close of the opening statement."Geragos added, "And by the way, I don't want to denigrate Mark Agnifalo. He did a tour de force on that closing that had him literally rolling in the aisles. So it was a pretty amazing book end."During opening statements of Diddy's trial, which began on May 5, Teny asked the jury to consider the federal charges, not the choices of an at-times violent man."Sean Combs is a complicated man, but this is not a complicated case," Teny told the court. "This case is about love, jealousy, infidelity and money. This case is about voluntary adult choices made by capable adults and consensual relationships. This case is about those real-life relationships, and the government is trying to turn those relationships into a racketeering case, a prostitution case and a sex trafficking case. It will not work."She noted that Diddy "has a bad temper" and at times gets "so angry or so jealous that he is out of control," but she emphasized that the "Victory" rapper was not charged with "being mean.""He is not charged with being a jerk. He's charged with running a racketeering enterprise," Teny said. "And though there was violence that you are going to hear about, you already have, that violence is not part of any RICO. That violence is not connected to sex trafficking and that violence is not prostitution."

Colorado man sentenced to life in prison for DUI that killed Air Force veteran, injured his children
A Colorado man who killed an Air Force veteran while driving drunk last year will spend the rest of his life behind bars after he was found guilty of first-degree murder.Paul Stephenson, 57, of Castle Rock, was convicted in April of killing USAF Lt. Col. Matt Anderson and injuring his four children after he crashed his truck into their vehicle while driving drunk in August 2024.Stephenson was sentenced to life in prison plus 92 years.Anderson was stopped at a 7-Eleven gas station with his family following a trip to the Douglas County Fair when he was killed, according to the 23rd Judicial District Attorneys Office. His wife was walking into the store when Stephenson drove his Chevy Silverado into their vehicle.ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT CONVICTED IN 100 MPH DUI CRASH THAT KILLED WASHINGTON STATE TROOPERWhile in court, Stephenson admitted to drinking a bottle of fireball whiskey and two beers before driving and his blood alcohol level was 2.5 times the legal limit, the DA's office said.Stephenson racked up his third DUI conviction when he was found guilty of killing Anderson.District Attorney George Brauchler said his office pursued the first-degree murder charge to "send a message to drunk drivers in Douglas County."Brauchler, who prosecuted the case, said it is a "bitter coincidence" that justice was handed down against Anderson's killer one day before July Fourth.REPUBLICAN DA BUCKS BLUE STATE'S 'BROKEN SENTENCING' WITH TOUGH-ON-CRIME APPROACH"It is a bitter coincidence that the day before we celebrate our nations independence, we have to confront the loss of one of Americas great Patriots who died Not at the hands of the enemy But by the selfish conduct of one of us," Bruachler said."The only appropriate sentence in this case is the one that will prevent things like this from happening again by scaring the hell out of those who would engage in similar behavior."Brauchler acknowledged that Douglas County is the most aggressive on drunk drivers compared to other jurisdictions in the area.Anderson's father said the verdict gives their family "a small amount of closure" and thanked the agencies involved in handing the sentence down.Senior Deputy District Attorney Nate Marsh commended the jury's decision and said it reflected how serious it is to drive drunk."The defendant cared only about himself and showed a complete disregard for the value of human life. This was murder in the first degree-extreme indifference and the jury agreed. His life sentence will ensure he cannot rip anyone else from their family," Marsh said.
