Maher praises conservatives like Kirk for promoting dialogue, condemns far left for celebrating his death
Liberal host Bill Maher mourned the killing of conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk, contrasting conservatives who embrace dialogue with far-left activists who, he argued, seek to silence it."Look, I might drink a little more than usual today," Maher told guest Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. "Because I dont know when this is airing, but this is a s--- day. A guy who sat there Charlie Kirk got shot today, and I can't stop thinking about it."Kirks assassination during a campus event stunned the nation and reignited a national conversation about the value of political dialogue even across deeply divided ideological lines."Neither can I," Corgan replied.JOE ROGAN SHOCKED ON-AIR BY CHARLIE KIRKS DEATH, LAMENTS LOSS OF 'REASONABLE' LEADER WHO PROMOTED OPEN DEBATE"And we shouldnt," Maher continued, before addressing liberals who openly celebrated Kirks death. "And if you're on the other side of the political divide, and you don't care because the wrong team guy got shot f--- you. You're what's wrong with this country."Maher reiterated that he still identifies as an "old-school liberal" but remains sharply critical of what he sees as the far lefts dominance over modern progressive politics."As I always say to my woke friends, we voted for the same person youre just why she lost," Maher said.I'M A DEMOCRAT, AND CHARLIE KIRK'S MURDER MUST UNITE ALL AMERICANS AGAINST VIOLENCEHe went on to highlight the divide between conservatives and the far left on the issue of political dialogue:"Theyre the people who dont want to talk," Maher said. "Charlie Kirk was always willing to engage I talked to him here. Say what you want about right-wingers, but theyll talk to you. The left has more of a, I wont talk to you. Youre deplorable. I cant break bread with you. Right-wingers dont have that attitude."Maher emphasized that disagreement does not negate humanity. "Now again, I didnt vote for them. Charlie Kirk and I certainly dont agree on much politically. But he sat here. Hes a human being. Hes not a monster."CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE"And a husband, and a father," Corgan added."Yes. And I liked him I like them all. Theyre all nice people when you meet them in person. Nobodys as crazy as theyre made out to be," Maher said, stressing that both sides must take responsibility for their own extremists if political violence is to be stopped."Violence has to be off the table," Corgan agreed, warning that peace should never be taken for granted and pointing to countries still plagued by sectarian political violence.

Copycat or coincidence? Teen defacing Kirk memorial arrested in t-shirt resembling Utah assassin's
A teen arrested after blatantly trampling over a memorial for Charlie Kirk outside the Turning Point USA headquarters on Sunday was wearing a T-shirt appearing to resemble the same shirt worn by Kirk's alleged assassin in security footage released by the FBI.During the FBI's manhunt for Kirk's assassin, law enforcement released security camera stills of the suspect just before he allegedly shot and killed Kirk. The suspect in those photos, believed to be 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, donned a long-sleeve black T-shirt with a distinct American flag design overlaid with an American Eagle. Gold and silver lining on top and below the American flag can also be seen.Meanwhile, video of the defacement of Kirk's memorial on Sunday, which took place outside Turning Point USA (TPUSA) headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, showed the vandal wearing a short-sleeve black T-shirt with what appeared to resemble the same logo that was on Robinson's shirt in security footage released by law enforcement. Kirk established TPUSA in 2012 and was killed while appearing at one of their events.CHARLIE KIRK ASSASSINATION SUSPECT AWAITS CHARGES AS UTAH RESIDENTS DESCRIBE ALLEGED KILLER AS VERY QUIETThe vandal arrested in Phoenix wearing a shirt similar to the one seen worn in security images by Robinson was identified by police as 19-year-old Ryder Corral.Corral stomped through the memorial destroying flowers, vases, flags and other gifts people put down, until a man wearing a blue polo shirt and white hat grabbed ahold of Corral and slammed him to the ground. Law enforcement eventually caught up with Corral, put him in handcuffs and escorted the teen away. LEGAL ANALYST CALLS FOR MORE ARRESTS IN CHARLIE KIRK ASSASSINATIONIt still remains unclear what Robinson's motive was, as he remains uncooperative with authorities. His transgender partner, who Robinson lived with, is cooperating with law enforcement, according to the FBI. Robinson's romantic partner and roommate allegedly held animosity towards conservatives and Christians, one of their relatives told Fox News Digital."He hates conservatives and Christians," the relative said. "He hated us. He was not raised that way, but he, over the years, has become really detached [and has] been radicalized."The relative added that they suspected Robinson's politics were influenced by his partner during their year dating.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP"I think Tyler got a whole lot worse in the year they have been dating. They are big [video] gamers, and obviously they have that group that influences them as well as others. But my gut tells me [the roommate] did more of the influencing," the relative said. The FBI is also probing left-wing groups in Utah for possible ties to Robinson or Kirk's assassination, a source familiar with the investigation told Fox News Digital.Investigators are looking into whether any groups had connections to Robinson, knew about his alleged plans beforehand or assisted him in carrying them out.

Maurene Comey sues DOJ for 'unlawful' firing, demands reinstatement
Maurene Comey, a longtime U.S. prosecutor who helped bring criminal cases against Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, sued the Trump administration Monday over her abrupt firing from the Justice Department.Comey had served at the U.S. attorney's office for the Southern District of New York since 2015 before her ousting earlier this year. She called her termination unlawful, "politically motivated," and argued it stemmed largely from the fact that her father is former FBI Director James Comey. In Monday's lawsuit, Comey's lawyers said her firing violated "multiple provisions" of the Civil Service Reform Act a law designed to protect government employees, including career federal prosecutors as well as the First and Fifth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution."The politically motivated termination of Ms. Comey ostensibly under Article II of the Constitution upends bedrock principles of our democracy and justice system," her lawyers argued, describing her removal as both "unlawful and unconstitutional."VANCE, BONDI, PATEL TO HUDDLE AT VP RESIDENCE FOR MEETING AMID EPSTEIN FALLOUT"Defendants have not provided any explanation whatsoever for terminating Ms. Comey," her lawyers argued. "In truth, there is no legitimate explanation. Rather, defendants fired Ms. Comey solely or substantially because her father is former FBI Director James B. Comey, or because of her perceived political affiliation and beliefs, or both."The lawsuit asks that Comey be reinstated to the Southern District of New York, where lawyers noted her work earned multiple awards, promotions and internal recognition, including a recent performance review calling her work "outstanding."It also cites protections afforded to career federal prosecutors, including prior notification and the ability to challenge a removal. In the years since Comey joined SDNY in 2015, her lawyers said, she had been assigned to prosecute some of the department's most high-profile cases including the criminal cases against Epstein, Maxwell, and others. Most recently, in May, she led the prosecution against Sean "Diddy" Combs.DEATH PENALTY LOOMS FOR CHARLIE KIRKS ACCUSED KILLER, BUT LEGAL BAR IS HIGH AS TRUMP, COX MOUNT PRESSUREComey had been asked by the U.S. attorneys office to lead a "major" public corruption case just one day before she was fired, the lawsuit said, underscoring what her lawyers call the abrupt nature of her removal. She was notified of her termination the next day in an emailed memo. The email did not list a cause or reason for removal, according to the lawsuit, though it made mention of "Article II," or the powers of the commander-in-chief. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton did not answer Comey when she pressed him for information on her firing, the lawsuit alleges. Instead, he told her, "All I can say is it came from Washington. I cant tell you anything else.""No other explanation was ever provided to Ms. Comey regarding the reason for her termination," her lawyers said. "Defendants had no lawful authority to terminate [the] plaintiff from federal service without adhering to the statutory protections afforded to her."They argued that this distinction should be taken to mean that Comey's termination is "ultra vires," or beyond the scope of one's authority thus "without force or effect.""The executive branch cannot use Article II to overrule Congress and remove career civil servants for perceived disloyalty," they added. "Such an act violates the Constitutions fundamental Separation of Powers. It also violates the Bill of Rights, depriving Ms. Comey of protection under the First and Fifth Amendments."The Justice Department declined to comment on the lawsuit, which names the department, Attorney General Pamela Bondi, OPM, and the Executive Office of the President as defendants, among others. It comes amid a years-long, high-profile dispute between President Donald Trump and former FBI Director James Comey, whom Trump fired during his first White House term in 2017, roughly five years into his 10-year tenure.JOHN BOLTON'S HOME AND OFFICE RAIDED BY FEDERAL AGENTSIn the years since Comey's departure, the two have continued to be sharply at odds. Comey has emerged as an outspoken Trump critic, both in public and in his memoir, "A Higher Loyalty." Comey came into the president's crosshairs again earlier this year after he posted what was viewed by Trump allies as a cryptic social media post online; he has denied knowledge of its true meaning.Trump, for his part, has continued to assail Comey and probe his tenure at the FBI. Earlier this year, the FBI confirmed it had launched criminal investigations into Comey and former CIA Director John Brennan for allegedly making false statements to Congress.Details of the investigation were not immediately clear, and in the months since the FBI's July announcement, there has been little information shared with the public about the nature or status of the probes. The younger Comey was terminated about a week after the investigations were announced a detail her lawyers highlighted in the lawsuit, which seeks her reinstatement and back pay.In a farewell email sent to colleagues, Maurene Comey wrote, "If a career prosecutor can be fired without reason, fear may seep into the decisions of those who remain.""Do not let that happen," she said.

Bernie Sanders condemns 'disturbing rise in political violence' after Charlie Kirk's assassination
Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., shared a nearly four-and-a-half minute video on social media following the assassination of Charlie Kirk that warned about "a disturbing rise in political violence," which the senator fears could lead to folks being afraid to participate in public life. He added that "every American" must condemn what happened to Kirk.Sanders has long been a staunch opponent of Republicans and conservatives like Kirk, but the progressive senator said Thursday that this disagreement is precisely what democracy and freedom are all about. He added that anyone who thinks violence is an answer is simply a coward."A free and democratic society, which is what America is supposed to be about, depends upon the basic premise that people can speak out, organize and take part in public life without fear," Sanders said in the video. "Without worrying that they might be killed, injured or humiliated for expressing their political views. In fact, that is the essence of what freedom is about and what democracy is about."I'M A DEMOCRAT, AND CHARLIE KIRK'S MURDER MUST UNITE ALL AMERICANS AGAINST VIOLENCESanders said he feared that the trend of political violence could create a chilling effect that prevents people from wanting to engage in democracy out of fear of the potential consequences that might ensue."Political violence, in fact, is political cowardice. It means that you cannot convince people of the correctness of your ideas, and you have to impose them through force," Sanders said. "Every American, no matter what one's political point-of-view may be, must condemn all forms of political violence and all forms of intimidation. We must welcome and respect dissenting points of view. That's what our Constitution is about, that's what our Bill of Rights is about, that, in fact, is what freedom is about.""The murder of Charlie Kirk is part of a disturbing rise in political violence that threatens to hollow out public life and make people afraid of participating," Sanders continued. After Kirk's assassination on Wednesday, uproar erupted on social media as posts and other records of people celebrating his assassination went viral. However, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have roundly condemned the political violence that took Kirk's life.CHARLIE KIRK ASSASSINATION ROCKS CAPITOL HILL, HEIGHTENS LAWMAKERS' SECURITY FEARS"This is beyond terrible," Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., said. "Charlie Kirk was a husband, father, and son. Violence is never the answer. Sydney and I are keeping the Kirk family in our prayers.""I'm deeply disturbed about the threat of violence that has entered our political life, and I pray that we will remember that every person, no matter how vehement our disagreement with them, is a human being and a fellow American deserving of respect and protection," said Senate Majority Leader John Thune. In a foreboding post on social media in April, Kirk himself warned about the "assassination culture" spreading on the left."Assassination culture is spreading on the left. Forty-eight percent of liberals say it would be at least somewhat justified to murder Elon Musk. Fifty-five percent said the same about Donald Trump," Kirk wrote in his post on X, which cited data from a study completed by the Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI)."The left is being whipped into a violent frenzy. Any setback, whether losing an election or losing a court case, justifies a maximally violent response," he said.

Daily Beast apologizes to Melania Trump over retracted Epstein allegations article
The Daily Beast issued a public apology to first lady Melania Trump and retracted an article that alleged she was introduced to her husband, President Donald Trump, via a modeling agent connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The outlet acknowledged the story, which relied on allegations by journalist Michael Wolff, did not meet editorial standards. It was initially pulled in July after the left-leaning site received a legal threat from the first ladys attorney challenging "the headline and framing." The Daily Beast formally apologized on Monday in a statement that Melania Trump shared on X."The Daily Beast recently published a story headlined Melania Trump Very Involved in Epstein Scandal: Author based on an interview with Michael Wolff. Upon reflection, we have determined that the article did not meet our standards and has therefore been removed from our platforms," The Daily Beast said in a statement.DAILY BEAST PULLS STORY ALLEGING MELANIA-EPSTEIN CONNECTION AFTER LAWYERS DISPUTE FRAMING"In response to a letter from the first ladys attorneys, The Daily Beast has also removed a portion of an episode of The Daily Beast Podcast titled Trumps Epstein Scandal Cant Stop Wont Stop referencing the first lady," the statement continued. "The first lady points to her bestselling book Melania as the definitive account of her life story. We apologize to the first lady and our readers." Wolff initially made the allegations in an interview with Daily Beast chief content officer Joanna Coles for The Daily Beast Podcast. They were discussing Trumps alleged connections with Epstein, the disgraced financier who died in 2019."[Melania] was very involved in this Epstein relationship. There is this model thing, and shes introduced by a model agent, both of whom Trump and Epstein are involved with. Shes introduced to Trump that way, Epstein knows her well," Wolff alleged.JEFFREY EPSTEIN THROWN OUT OF MAR-A-LAGO FOR HIRING THE HELP: TRUMPWolff did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In 2018, the journalist told Bill Maher he had evidence that Trump was having an affair and claimed that a clue to his mistress identity could be found at the end of his White House tell-all "Fire and Fury."Readers identified passages that seemed to implicate then-United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley. Israels military chief backs Witkoff plan over Netanyahus Gaza takeover, sources say
FIRST ON FOX: Israel's top military chief, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, is opposing a full military takeover of Gaza and urging adoption of the Witkoff plan, three senior sources told Fox News Digital amid mounting debate over the countrys next steps."The chief of staff is standing by his professional judgment, based on the experience of this war," one former senior IDF official said. "In recent days he told the cabinet that while the IDF is prepared for a ground maneuver, the correct path is to reach a deal to save all the hostages and to enter negotiations. A maneuver now could endanger the hostages, as we saw in Tel Sultan."RUBIO, NETANYAHU DISCUSS GLOBAL IMPACT OF CHARLIE KIRKS DEATH, WARN OF DESTRUCTIVE THREATS TO DEMOCRACYThe Tel Sultan incident in Rafah in 2024 remains a turning point in Israeli decision-making. During that operation,Hamas executed six hostages, including American-Israeli Hersh Goldberg-Polin, as Israeli forces closed in, underscoring the risks of a large-scale ground maneuver before negotiations are exhausted.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly claimed that Israels goal "is not to occupy Gaza. Our goal is to free Gaza, free it from Hamas terrorists," arguing that seizing Gaza City is necessary because Hamas refuses to lay down arms. He has said this is the only way to secure the release of the roughly48 hostages still held in Gaza. But the former senior official told Fox News that military pressure has already brought Hamas back to the Witkoff framework of July 29. "The framework should be accepted, and Washington should understand the chiefs position as it was presented to the cabinet. Hamas is ready to stand by those conditions now. The chief of staff opposes military rule in Gaza and believes Israel should look ahead to the day after and draw a political solution accordingly. If necessary, the IDF can continue fighting after such an agreement."ISRAELS GAZA OFFENSIVE SPARKS FIERCE CLASH OVER ULTRA-ORTHODOX MILITARY DRAFTA spokesperson from the Prime Ministers Office told Fox News Digital in response: "The Israeli cabinet decided to move forward with the operation plan presented by the chief of staff himself."A recent Politico report quoted a source described as "close to the presidents national security team," saying the Tuesday strike against Hamass leadership in Doha may have been an intentional move to hinder negotiations. "Every time theyre making progress, it seems like he [Netanyahu] bombs someone," the source said in the report. The officials confirmed to Fox News Digital that both the IDF chief of staff and the Mossad director opposed the timing of theQatar operation. "The plan was long in the works, but there was no reason to choose this specific timing instead of waiting to get Hamass response in the negotiations," one said, adding that "that decision, as well as the decision to continue the Gaza operation, go against professional echelon advice."A second source familiar with cabinet deliberations confirmed the chief of staff reiterated his position last Friday and again yesterday in both the Security Cabinet and the Foreign Affairs and Defense subcommittee. "He has made clear that the Witkoff plan is a good one," the source said, pointing to its terms: a 60-day Israeli withdrawal in exchange for the release of 10 live hostages and 15 bodies, with Israel free to resume fighting if Hamas violates the deal.

American Federation of Teachers (AFT) chief Randi Weingarten is set to hold a virtual event Tuesday promoting her new book on educators battling "fascist regimes" an appearance that comes less than a week after the shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk, reportedly motivated by anti-fascist ideology. The virtual event is slated to kick off at 4 p.m. Eastern Time Tuesday and is hosted by a group called Emerge, a liberal nonprofit that "recruits, trains, and provides a powerful network to Democratic women who want to run for office," according to its website. The event will focus on Weingarten's new book, "Why Fascists Fear Teachers," and will include Emerge President and CEO Ashanti F. Gholar.Fox News Digital reached out to the American Federation of Teachers and Emerge inquiring if the event had been canceled in light of Kirk's assassination or if Weingarten would address his death, but did not receive replies. Promotions for the event are still active on Emerge's website.Weingarten's book, which hits bookshelves Tuesday, elaborates on her views battling what she says is fascist ideology and how it works to "undermine democracy, opportunity, and public education as we know it."DONALD TRUMP JR. WARNS POLITICAL VIOLENCE IS 'NOT GOING BOTH WAYS' AS HE MOURNS CHARLIE KIRK'S DEATH"Attacks on schools and teachers have long been a hallmark of fascist regimes: Throughout history, as many dictators rose to power they began banning books and controlling curriculum," the book's preview reads. "Fascists fear teachers because teachers foster an educated and empowered population that can see past propaganda and scare tactics. Fascists fear teachers because they teach young people how to think for themselves."Media pundits and conservatives have been pointing to the left's years of claiming conservative figures such as Kirk are "fascists."CONNECTICUT GOP ACCUSES DEMOCRATIC SCHOOL BOARD CHAIRMAN OF CELEBRATING CHARLIE KIRK'S MURDERKirk, who co-founded Turning Point USA (TPUSA) in 2018, was assassinated Wednesday during a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University when a single shot rang out and struck the conservative political leader in the neck. Officials identified Tyler Robinson as the suspect in the case, detaining him late Thursday after Robinson confessed the violence to his father, investigators said. Robinson, 22, is under "special watch" while in custody until he completes a mental health evaluation, authorities reported Sunday.Senior investigators told Fox News Digital that officials also are interviewing Robinson's romantic partner, an unidentified male who is currently transitioning to female, who is cooperating with officials.Republican Utah Gov. Spencer Cox told the media Friday that the inscriptions on the casings the suspect brought with him to the attacks were inscribed with anti-fascist messaging such as, "Hey fascist! His funeral is scheduled for Sept. 21 in Arizona and will be attended by President Donald Trump and other administration leaders. The American Federation of Teachers chief condemned "political violence" following the assassination."Let's be clear: violence is never okay," she posted to X Wednesday. "Political violence is never okay. Gun violence ruins lives. My prayers are with Charlie Kirk, his family and everyone who was present at this horrific event."DAVID MARCUS: DEMOCRATS MUST STOP THEIR DEADLY ANTI-FASCISM COSPLAY"There is no excuse for political violence against anyone for their beliefs," she posted to X Sunday. "We must condemn it unequivocally. And I hope this tragedy sparks a serious conversation about the role social media plays in spreading fear, hate & disinformation."Weingarten's book railing against "fascists" follows her full-court press during the 2024 election cycle against a second Trump administration, warning Democrat votes were the "best defense against tyranny and fascism.""The November elections will determine which path we take as a nation. Progress is indeed possible, but so is the eradication of the rights and freedoms we hold dear," Weingarten said during AFTs annual convention in Houston, in July 2024."Historians who study threats to democracy and how fascists come to power conclude that it is seldom a dramatic event or attack that lets fascism in the door. The violence comes later after they are voted in," she continued in a speech that was slammed by conservatives as "unhinged."

The assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk is having a heightened impact on the young people of Arizona, where his organization is headquartered. The location of TPUSA's headquarters, as well as its political arm, Turning Point Action, has resulted in the group playing an outsized role in the Grand Canyon State, which was considered hotly competitive in 2024.A Fox News voter analysis found that 48% of people aged 18-29 voted for President Donald Trump in Arizona, with former Vice President Kamala Harris only narrowly winning the demographic with 51%. Overall, Trump won the state with over 52% of the vote.TURNING POINT USA SAYS CAMPUS CHAPTER REQUESTS SURGE TO OVER 32,000 AFTER KIRK'S ASSASSINATIONThe state also has multiple large universities, including Arizona State University, the University of Arizona in Tucson, Northern Arizona University, and Grand Canyon University, a private Christian institution in west Phoenix.Arizona State Universitys College Republicans and TPUSA are hosting a large vigil for Kirk on Monday night. And I do come from a Christian college, so I already believed in that, but it made me look deeper into what we are as people and our freedom, and he shed a good light on that," Oveson said.Buchanan said the tragedy could "bring a lot of people closer to God, and it's gonna help a lot of people find what they truly believe in."TPUSA has seen 37,000 new chapter requests since the Wednesday shooting, and the group already has roughly 900 college and 1,200 high school chapters. "It won't. I refuse to let that happen. No one will ever forget my husband's name. And I will make sure of it. It will become stronger. Bolder. Louder and greater than ever. My husband's mission will not end. Not even for a moment."
