WWW.FOXNEWS.COMCelebratory, dismissive reactions to Charlie Kirks death putting educators under scrutinyIn the wake of Charlie Kirks murder, some on the left many in the education sphere have come out dismissing or even celebrating his death as a way of disputing his conservative political views. While some have hailed Kirk as a champion of free expression, numerous teachers and educators have faced suspension or scrutiny for online comments appearing to mock or cheer his death, bringing to the fore questions about political bias inside America's classrooms.House Education and Workforce Chairman Tim Walberg, R-Mich., told Fox News Digital too many students are being "indoctrinated to hate those they disagree with instead of thoughtfully engaging with peers to discuss differences."YOUTH LEADERS MOURN 'THE GODFATHER OF CAMPUS CONSERVATISM' CHARLIE KIRK FOLLOWING ASSASSINATION"We should not teach kids what to think, but how to think," he said.In a statement, Senate Health Education Labor & Pensions Committee chairman Bill Cassidy, R-La., said there is a "clear lesson" over educators and others losing jobs for "vile" public comments about Charlie Kirk."If your first reaction to a hate-fueled assassination is more hatred, ask yourself if you should put your phone down. Cruelty in response to tragedy only serves to divide us further," Cassidy said. The House panel further provided Fox News Digital with a separate statement mourning Kirk as a "true champion of free speech" and highlighting the importance of "honest and productive debate" versus politicized censorship."Charlie inspired thousands of students to speak their minds, ask difficult questions, and engage in meaningful conversations regardless of political affiliation," Walberg said.Kirk helped students feel empowered to express their beliefs without fear, he said, and reminded the next generation of the importance of "intellectual diversity."However, many educators across the country do not share Walbergs view, as cases of teachers being suspended or scrutinized for their own reactions come to light.FOX NEWS PERSONALITIES OFFER EMOTIONAL TRIBUTES TO CHARLIE KIRK: 'HE LOVED AMERICA SO MUCH'In Massachusetts, at least three different school districts reported teachers being put under investigation for public reactions to Kirks murder. In Framingham, Massachusetts, just outside Boston, Superintendent Robert Tremblay confirmed to the citys Fox affiliate that "while the law prevents us from discussing specific personnel matters, the employee is on leave pending an internal review. Be assured that we are addressing the situation in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies."UTAH VALLEY UNIVERSITY MOURNS CHARLIE KIRK AS CAMPUS REOPENS AFTER ASSASSINATION: EXTREMELY TRAUMATICTeachers in another Boston suburb, Sharon, Massachusetts, as well as the Wachusett Regional School District near Worcester, also were scrutinized, according to the Fox affiliate.Florida Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas warned his office is now on the lookout for more such inappropriate reactions to Kirks murder, after a teacher in the state allegedly posted that while the 31-year-olds obituary was not the one she hoped to wake up to, it was a close second to an unstated one. Online chatter alleged the inference was a swipe at President Donald Trump."Teachers are held to a higher standard as public servants and must ensure their conduct does not undermine the trust of the students and families they serve," Kamoutsas said in a statement first reported by Politico. "We will hold teachers who choose to make disgusting comments about the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk accountable."CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPTo the north, South Carolina also has seen teachers react insensitively to Kirks murder.A teacher in Greenville, South Carolina, was "no longer employed" as of Thursday after the district confirmed to local media that he posted on social media that "American became greater today. There I said it."In Pennsylvania, a teacher in Lancaster City came under scrutiny after also reportedly posting widely condemned comments about Kirk.A post on social media called Kirk a "racist, xenophobic, transphobic, islamophobic, sexist, white nationalist mouthpiece," and was allegedly shared by the teacher. It also criticized Kirk for "normalizing Trumpism for years the man stood for nothing but hate. I extend absolutely no empathy for people like that," which led the district to issue a statement to Lancaster newspaper LNP."We are aware of the reaction to an online post shared by one of our employees on a personal social media platform," the statement said. "The School District of Lancaster abhors violence of any kind and is committed to schools that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming to all in our community."A teachers union official in the Keystone State went on to tell the paper that violence and threats of violence are the opposite of "everything we as educators commit our lives and careers to.""Political violence jeopardizes our democracy and deepens the fear, hatred and division that too often dominates over national discourse," PSEA spokesperson Christopher Lilienthal said.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 17 Visualizações 0 Anterior

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMDHS Secretary Noem says Kirks last text to her warned about threat of illegal immigration in big citiesU.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem appeared on the New York Post's "Pod Force One with Miranda Devine" on Wednesday, revealing her last communication with Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk before he was assassinated last week.Noem told Devine that her last communication with Kirk was the day before his murder, and that, unfortunately, she had missed the message while she was traveling for work in a different time zone."The last message he had texted me was the day before he passed away, and it said we have to hold these mayors and local officials accountable for what they're doing," she revealed. "I think he was watching across this country as people were continuing to be victimized by illegal criminal activity, and he wanted someone to be held accountable."FEARLESS TOUR TAKES CHARLIE KIRKS FREE SPEECH MISSION TO COLLEGES NATIONWIDEKirk, 31, a father of two, was shot and killed Sept. 10 at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The TPUSA founder was struck in the neck as he spoke to a large crowd from under a white pop-up tent. He was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead that afternoon. The DHS secretary opened up about how she felt after missing Kirk's final message to her, expressing that while she felt bad, she believed Kirk knew that she was "on it.""I was traveling, in meetings in a different time zone, and I didn't see it and missed it, and I will always feel bad that I didn't respond because I would have said, 'Absolutely, I'm on it,' which I am, but I think he knew that," she recalled.CHARLIE KIRK PAINTED AS 'CONTROVERSIAL,' 'PROVOCATIVE' IN MEDIAS ASSASSINATION COVERAGECLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTUREDevine asked Noem what she thought of Democrats demanding that media figures and politicians commenting on Kirk's assassination call out political violence from "both sides" of the aisle. The host said she believed political violence had been carried out "by the left on conservatives almost entirely.""What do you think about that? And can anything be done?" Devine asked."It can be," the DHS secretary replied. "I think we are incredibly blessed that we have a president that speaks truth. To have someone that sits in that office and is out with people that will speak the truth to what is really happening in this country is powerful."CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPNoem argued that the American people are "waking up" following Kirk's assassination and that DHS will continue to "be bold" in calling the situation as it sees it."They're not going to get the truth unless they do their research and unless they know, and they know that this has been an attack from liberal, leftist, extremist, radicalized individuals against conservatives trying to silence them," she told Devine."And we'll continue to be bold in saying that because until eyes are opened up to what's really happening in this country and how it's changing, we can't do better."0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 33 Visualizações 0 Anterior

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMFLASHBACK: Mamdani labeled Kirk a 'far-right extremist' who should be canceled from speaking in NYCNew York City socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani once signed a letter labeling conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated last week, as an "extremist" while calling on a venue to block his ability to speak in New York City.In a June 2023press release by several local Democrats, Mamdani and his colleagues issued a statement "in response to Motif Studios agreeing to host a far-right extremist event on June 17th at Tammany House in Long Island City.""As elected officials representing western Queens, we are deeply disappointed by the decision by Motif Studios to host an event by the far-right extremist groups Blexit and Turning Point USA at their Triplex LIC/Tammany House venue in Long Island City," the statement explained."Providing a platform for the kind of transphobic, bigoted views held by invited speakers Candace Owens, Charlie Kirk and others goes directly against the diversity and inclusivity that we hold dear as New Yorkers and is an insult to every member of our community."ZOHRAN MAMDANI'S 'FREE' PROMISES ARE TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, YOUNG CONSERVATIVES WARNThe elected Democrats went on to call on Motif Studios to "follow the lead" of another local venue who was originally going to host the event but "canceled their booking after the community spoke out" about the "bigotry" of the event organizers."Hate has no home in Queens, New York City, or anywhere else and certainly not here in Long Island City," the press release said. The scheduled event was held according to plan and Kirk posted a video of an activist being removed after attempting to disrupt the proceedings.GOP Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz, who represents New Yorks 15th District, told Fox News Digital that Kirk was murdered for exercising his free speech and that elected officials should be forced to "reckon with the culture of hate that has been allowed to grow."TOP UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATOR CALLS CHARLIE KIRK ASSASSINATION 'FAIR' DUE TO STANCE ON GUNS: 'NO PRAYERS'"We cannot ignore that my colleagues, Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani and his radical DSA allies, once tried to silence Charlie Kirk in New York City, pressuring venues to cancel his events," Blumencranz said."That mindset of censorship and public shaming feeds the hostile climate we see today and corrodes the American ideal that speech must be met with more speech, not suppression."Kirks death has ignited a firestorm of political debate about free speech in the U.S. and Blumencranz told Fox News Digital he believes Mamdani, who holds a commanding polling lead in the race to be New York Citys next mayor, has been hypocritical on the issue of speech."Whats most telling is Mamdanis double standard: the speech he rushes to protect like globalize the intifada, which many view as a call to violence against Jews tears at Americas fabric, while the speech he vigorously fights to silence is the very kind that keeps our democracy alive," Blumencranz said.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPBlumencranz continued, "New Yorkers must ask themselves what it would mean to have a Silencer-in-Chief like Zohran Mamdani in City Hall. New York deserves a Unifier-in-Chief,' who will defend free expression and bring people together clearly, Zohran Mamdani is not that leader."Fox News Digital reached out to the Mamdani campaign for comment.Mamdani publicly addressed Kirks assassination, telling a group of supporters that the shooting was "horrific" and "yet another victim of gun violence in a nation where what should be a rarity has turned into a plague."In a post on X, Mamdani said he was "horrified" and declared that "political violence has no place in our country."0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 32 Visualizações 0 Anterior

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMTrump rips into ABC reporter after being asked about Pam Bondi's 'hate speech' remarksPresident Donald Trump lashed out at ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl on Tuesday after he was questioned about Attorney General Pam Bondi's recent comments on cracking down on "hate speech" following the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. The exchange occurred after Karl asked the president at the White House, "What do you make of Pam Bondi saying shes going to go after hate speech? Is that, I mean, a lot of people, a lot of your allies, say hate speech is free speech.""Shell probably go after people like you, because you treat me so unfairly," Trump replied, speaking over Karl as he asked if that would be appropriate. "You have a lot of hate in your heart. Maybe they will come after ABC. ABC paid me $16 million recently for a form of hate speech. Your company paid me $16 million for a form of hate speech, so maybe they will have to go after you."TED CRUZ SAYS HATE SPEECH 'ABSOLUTELY' PROTECTED BY FIRST AMENDMENT FOLLOWING CHARLIE KIRK'S ASSASSINATIONThe president was referring to the settlement of a defamation lawsuit with ABC over the way one of its top anchors, George Stephanopoulos, portrayed a jury verdict against Trump in the E. Jean Carroll civil trial. Stephanopoulos repeatedly said during an interview last year that Trump was held liable for rape rather than sexual abuse. The lawsuit was dismissed last December after a settlement was reached with the network and Stephanopoulos, resulting in a $15 million payout to a future Trump library and $1 million to pay Trump's legal fees.Trump's outburst against Karl came on the heels of comments made by Bondi this week pertaining to hate speech. The attorney general received pushback from both liberals and conservatives after she suggested Monday during a podcast interview that "hate speech" could be prosecuted by her Justice Department.Bondi took to X on Tuesday to clarify her position, noting that hate speech would only be prosecuted when the language used crossed the line of calling for violence.BONDI 'HATE SPEECH' REMARKS SPARK TORRENT OF CRITICISM FROM CONSERVATIVES"Hate speech that crosses the line into threats of violence is NOT protected by the First Amendment. Its a crime," Bondi wrote. "For far too long, weve watched the radical left normalize threats, call for assassinations, and cheer on political violence. That era is over."While speaking to Katie Miller, the wife of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, on her podcast Monday, Bondi stated that the federal government will "target" those who leverage hate speech against others following the assassination of Kirk.CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE"Theres free speech and then theres hate speech, and there is no place, especially now, especially after what happened to Charlie, in our society," Bondi said. "We will absolutely target you, go after you, if you are targeting anyone with hate speech."Bondi was criticized on social media by individuals from both ends of the political spectrum, whose primary argument was that there is no hate speech exception to the First Amendment. Some cited Kirk himself in 2024, when he wrote that hate speech "does not exist legally in America."Fox News Digital reached out to ABC for comment.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 14 Visualizações 0 Anterior

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMMenendez brothers bid for new trial rejected as killer slams judges decision as mental gymnasticsA California judge has denied the Menendez brothers bid for a new trial, marking yet another setback for the two men convicted in the 1989 shotgun murders of their parents in Beverly Hills as one of the men took to social media to blast the "disappointing" decision. On Monday, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge ruled against Erik and Lyle Menendez, ultimately rejecting a 2023 habeas corpus petition filed by the brothers attorneys, Cliff Gardner and Mark Geragos, requesting a new trial, according to FOX 11.The petition argued that two new pieces of evidence support the brothers claims regarding years of alleged sexual abuse at the hands of their father, Jos Menendez.MENENDEZ KILLERS RIDE HOLLYWOOD WAVE, CELEBRITIES' SPOTLIGHT IN BID TO WALK AFTER PARENTS' MURDERSThe pairs attorneys pointed to a letter allegedly written by Erik to his cousin Andy Cano in late 1988 or early 1989, along with new allegations by Roy Rossell, a former member of the boy band Menudo, that he was also sexually abused by the elder Menendez as a teenager. In the filing, the attorneys insisted that the new evidence "not only shows that Jose Menendez was very much a violent and brutal man who would sexually abuse children, but it strongly suggests that in fact he was still abusing Erik Menendez as late as December 1988 just as the defense had argued all along."However, Judge William Ryan sided with the prosecution and determined the new evidence would most likely not have resulted in a different outcome at the end of a jury trial.ERIK MENENDEZ DENIED PAROLE BY CALIFORNIA BOARD IN BEVERLY HILLS MURDER CASEIn a Facebook post, Lyle expressed frustration with the ruling while vowing that "the fight continues.""This disappointing decision does not take away from the courage of Roy Rossello or the torment that he lived through at the hands of Jos Menendez," Lyle wrote."To claim that another rape victim of Jos Menendez would not have affected the decision of at least one juror is quite the exercise in mental gymnastics. And to claim that the writing of Erik was also meaningless would likewise get a gold medal in the mental gymnastics category. Onward!"LYLE MENENDEZ DENIED PAROLE BY CALIFORNIA BOARD IN BEVERLY HILLS MURDER CASEDuring a Tuesday press conference, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman doubled down on the judges decision by corroborating that the new evidence failed to meet the requirements for a new trial, the outlet reported.Hochman pointed to the decades-old letter penned by Erik, stating that the item was not new and had just never been mentioned in court before."Andy Cano did not testify to this letter, or its existence, in two different trials," Hochman said. "So, we argued that it didn't meet the new qualification. We said it wasn't timely. They had this letter 35 years ago. To be timely, generally, for a habeas petition, you have to file the motion within five years of discovering the new evidence."MENENDEZ BROTHERS BANK ON NEW TRIAL AS BACKUP IF PAROLE BID FAILSThe "last-ditch" attempt comes one month after both Erik and Lyle Menendez were both denied parole in separate hearings for the 1989 slaying of their parents, Jos and Kitty Menendez. The brothers, then 18 and 21, were convicted in 1996.Following a daylong hearing, the California Board of Parole Hearings denied Lyle parole for three years, citing a history of "anti-social personality traits like deception, minimization and rule breaking."MENENDEZ BROTHERS SCORE CRUCIAL LEGAL VICTORY IN DECADES-LONG FIGHT AS THEY AWAIT POTENTIAL FREEDOMSimilarly, the board also denied parole for Erik, with Commissioner Robert Barton emphasizing the seriousness of his crimes and conduct in prison."I believe in redemption, or I wouldnt be doing this job," Barton said. "But based on the legal standards, we find that you continue to pose an unreasonable risk to public safety."The decision was the latest after a May resentencing hearing ended with Judge Michael Jesic reducing the brothers life-without-parole sentences to 50-to-life, ultimately deeming them eligible for parole consideration. Both Erik and Lyle Menendez are eligible to be reconsidered for parole in 2028.The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office and the Menendez brothers' attorneys did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.Fox News Digital's Sarah Rumpf-Whitten and Stepheny Price contributed to this report.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 14 Visualizações 0 Anterior
